Time to change my shoes

It's time. I'm going to put the 18s with snows on this week. I drove out to Lebanon on Saturday and Hasbrouck Heights yesterday. The ramps aren't the same in the colder weather. I took one hard Sunday (before it started raining) and I didn't feel that grip. I waited until late January to change them last year. I don't remember losing the grip though.

Weather sucks, yesterday I spent the day in my garage with the heater on. Detailed the 6er, got out some of my 'Phil' products and ran the polisher on the car. When I headed out to the garage to go to work this morning, it was raining and 35 degrees :(

This blows....either snow...or be 75 :)

Don't feel bad. I left the house at 7 am yesterday, I had to be at Phil's at 8 am.
As soon as I left Phil's it started raining. I was hoping to at least get clear skies for the ride home to show her off.

It's snowing north and west of here. They just annouced a school closing in Randolph NJ

I totally agree. If it's gonna snow, let it snow hard. Otherwise, just let it be in the upper 70s.

I think we can wait on the snows though.

You have all seasons on the X. I have summer tires that aren't taking kindly to the colder temperatures.

It was nice meeting you yesterday Brian. Nice looking ride - good luck. :)

Will have to swap out as well this weekend... Back to 19's with winter tires...

X5Jay 11-19-2007 03:14 PM

I just swapped mine back to the 18s this weekend. While I certainly miss the look and handling of the 132s, it's good to give up the tramlining for a few months - definately a more relaxing drive with the 18s. And the handling really is still pretty good with the 18s, especially with the Dinan camber plates...

If you get the right tires you don't have to swap. I take my X5 up snowboarding with my 20s on. :-)

Yes, nice meeting you too.

I had to look into your comment that I "have all seasons on the X" as that didn't sound right. I have Dunlop SP Sport MAXX tires and "they are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, through snow or on ice" according to Tire Rack so they don't sound like all seasons to me. Tire Rack classifies them as "Max Performance Summer" tires.

I'm surprised that they put summer tires on the X. Mine came with all seasons. Is it different with the sports package? :dunno:

The X5 is my snow tires.

But I did winterize the convertible. It won't be moving from the garage for awhile.

for DC/MD people...am I going to need winter tires for my X5?

Probably not, but they are comforting if there is snow. I was amazed at the difference.

i'm using the OEM all-season Michies, but they are kinda worn, so i was gonna put dedicated snow tires on (all though we dont get much deep snow here, its the ice thats a PITA). they are priced about the same as all-seasons and since i run high performance tires for about 9 months a year, i'll be safe and get snows this time around. i felt a little slippage the other day in my summer tires in the cold which further supports my thoughts.
