DOT/VIN stickers
Noob question here. All my other BMWs have VIN/DOT stickers on the panels and door jambs, thier presence sort of being an assurance that the panels are factory original. Now my new (to me) X5 has none of these...I assume because trucks do not conform to DOT regs for cars. Can anyone confirm this for me, or do you all have stickers and my X5 has been completely rebuilt? I hope not!
I know that one of my doors has been resprayed, and the edges of my hood seem to be peeling...primer seems to be showing on the edges inside the seam (can't see when shut). Trying to determine if its an original or resprayed hood. tia John here is what they look like |
Only place I've noticed a VIN sticker on mine is on the rear hatch, behind the license plate. But I haven't looked, either.
My black '01 has paint coming off the edges of the hood and doors (like yours, where it can't be seen unless the hood/door is open), and mine looks to be all factory. So I don't know if that is a reliable sign of a repaint. Anybody know where the VIN stickers on the doors, fenders, etc are??? |
The only VIN sticker is on the driver's door jam. All other doors are absent of the VIN stickers. I'm almost certain that none of my doors have been replaced or resprayed (unless of course, it was done at the VPC - BMW's Vehicle Preparation Center) since I picked my X up 2 days after it arrived at the dealer. The paint coming off the edges of the hood seems like a BMW problem since mine have it as well, so it may not be a sign of respray on your X.
