LED Trailer Lights adapter accessory

I recently purchased a trailer for my 2004 X5 and it has LED lights. Problem is the X5 reports "Check Trailer Lights" I suspect because of their low power consumption the car thinks that they are not working.

BMW here (Australia) tell me they sell a $100 adapter to fit to the trailer lighting loom to fix the issue. Anyone know any details about this or what the adapter does exactly ? Is it an active device or just adds a load to the circuit ?

hi, so did you end up buying the adaptor? i'd like ot know the details on this from BMW as the alternatives are expensive (~$350-$450)
