I drove with 5 day old Toyo Proxes S/T's in about 4 inches of snow the other day and they handled perfectly.

I don't understand why people try to run proxies in the snow, i understand if your trying to save some money, but its not worth it. Get a dedicated snow rim and tire and switch them twice a year, simple. /rant.

Well...some people like myself living in So Cal will only see snow for those 5 to 10 days when we're up in the mountains snowboarding/skiing does not justify in getting a 2nd set of dedicated snow tire/rim.

Lol, well I have had mine for about 8 months and they have around 10k on them and they by no means handle perfectly or even well for that matter in the snow. I have owned several 4 wheel drive/all wheel drive vehicles with different tire setups but this is by far the worst. In all honesty the X5 isn't the greatest vehicle in the snow to begin with, but you add these tires with that width and like others have said its basically a sled. We don't usually get all that much snow in VA though so I can't really justify buying a set of wheels and snow tires for about 5-10 days of use per year. Its times like these that I start to miss my Audi A6 Quattro.. it never once got stuck or even really lost traction in the snow.

We only get snow a few times a year.

It varied. I went up and down a pretty steep driveway at my Mom's house. I used the HDC to go down a very steep hill...ever since then my dash has been lit up like a Christmas tree with the Brake, ABS, and DSC lights. :banghead:

This is my second winter with the Toyos S/T in that setup. I have had zero problems with them in snow and I always felt safer. they IMO handled particularly well even though they are not snow tires. I have about 5K miles on them.

Something is not right and you might be on ice. I live in No VA too.
