Rear Shock Replacement

Hey Guys!

I have a definite knock in the rear shock area- 2002 X5-standard suspension. It occurs with light "washboard" type bumps rather than big craters. I believe it is at the the top of the driver's side rear shock. I'm mechanically capable, but do not see how to access the rear upper shock mounts. Is there a place on the Forum where I can get instructional help with rear shock replacement?
Thanks in advance!
Dan

Its really easy.
You will find the top of the shock nuts under the back floor cover.
remove the plastic parts on both sides and you will see two rubber boots
on both sides. The rubber boot closest to the tailgate is the shock .
Remove both the nuts.
Remove the nut and bolt from the bottom of the shock . I didnt even have to raise the X5 to do this .
The shock fits in without any effort if you have the X5 level and not jacked up.

I put a set of Bilstiens in the rear of my X5 and it stop the teader-todder effect.

2002 X5 . Dude, i assume you do not have a rear air suspension. I also drive an 02 X5 3.0d euro but I think I have rear air suspension. Am I correct ?

Thanks a lot!!! I thought it would be in there somewhere. I should have bought a service manual. I appreciate your help- hope it solves the knock!

You're correct, I do not have air suspension. I'm not sure the knock is coming from the shock, but it sounds like it. I've ridden in the back and have eliminated the rear hatch and spare tire area.
Thanks
Dan
