how to add coolant.

my "check coolant level" lights up every now and then when engine is cold....

after cooling down the engine overnight, i opened up the radiator cap, and it needs topping up... can't see fluid inside...

when topping up coolant on the X5, will i need to open the bleeder screw? engine on? off?, heater at maximum, etc etc? need help asap. tnx guys.

The engine has to be cold and switched off - otherwise boiling coolant fluid can cause you injury. Under the filling cap there should be a kind of a red buoy. When the level is suffiscient it will top above the cap.

This screw in designated to throw off exessive pressure in the coolant system when the cap fails to do that. Once I already encountered this problem - observed steam going out of the screw with extreme pressure )

Poor coolant in and NO, you never touch the radiator when the engine is running. It is a pressurized system.
