high beam trouble?

I have been settling into my new 04 X5 CPO and noticed that when I am driving at night and put on my high beam it seems to only flood the outside of the right side of the car. I was curious so I had someone sit in the drivers seat and turn it on and off and it seems that it only changes the lights on the right side. Is this normal or is my driver side high beam out?

Also, I noticed that when I pull back on the stalk it emits a different light (my guess is non xenon) than when I turn the brights on by pushing the stalk. What is the reason for this? I am just trying to learn more about the lights/angel eyes/etc.

Also, I have angel eyes, but they seem very dim, is this a normal default setting or is that customizable?

Thanks for all the help!

Your headlight question was covered, at length, in this thread:

As for the AE (angel eyes) they are dull as OEM, you can buy AE kits from various vendors on this site. Do a search for angle eyes on the board.

so it ended up that the motor that controls the shutter for the high beams died causing one of them to be stuck on open, they are replacing the entire light assembly right now and hopefully I should have the car tomorrow or the next day. Is this a fairly common issue?

no it isn't.
