Acceleration problem

Have a 06 4.4 since new about 7,000 on it now.Since i have had it i feel it has a miss, hesistation, tranny problem when i start from a dead stop. It never feels smooth always jerky.Anyone who drives it also mentions this without me asking them.Dealer tells me about VANOS but i do not believe him. Also truck is slow to downshift to pass unless you hit pedal all the way and rough downshift when coming to a stop. Any ideas ????? thanks

Long shot, but you might want to try this: Turn the key to position 2, then hold the gas pedal past the resistance point for 20 seconds.

I found I had to lighten up on my foot and ease on the throttle with my 2006 4.4 - the computer does not allow you to 'stomp' on it - the computer 'governs' the fuel flow, trying to limit excess flow to improve gas mileage - ease up alittle and enjoy better mileage

OOPS! just noticed where you're coming from - as an ex-NJ, I know your problem - it's a drag race to the next light, right? - there's definitely a slight hesitation that seems to last an eternity when trying to get out into traffic - take a deep breath, let it out slowly, chant "O-o-h-u-u-u-m", and then proceed slowly - it won't win you the 'race', but may help ease up on the ulcer you're developing

Thanks

I already have a ulcer.not over this !!!!!!!. Thought i was driving too casual, feels better when driven hard anyway. Thanks

i've read it in this forum that it resets the settings on the computer of the old driver/owner. in my case, I have a CPO '04 and it somewhat changed after doing the trick.

there was a lag before and the shifting was a little abrupt but now not much lag and the shifting is smoother...before it would rev so much before shifting in each gear...

I had this same problem. It was really noticable and I took it to the dealership and told them they needed to update the flash for the transmission. I found this information on this website. They did flash the vehicle and it is less noticable but not completely gone. Here is the link that describes the same problem that I had. Hope this helps.

MARCH374, did you try resetting the system per the instructions above? If so, did you notice any difference? I reset mine whenever I suspect lagging this procedure takes care of it.

dpgx5 02-05-2008 08:24 PM

Im going to try this... Is position #2 were all the dash light come up? Or its before that? Key is somewhat tricky lol when turning it. Thanks

zerochief 02-05-2008 08:30 PM

The position right before ignition.... can't remember which or what lights come on. Also, :xoutpost:

dpgx5 02-06-2008 09:58 AM

Can you confirm...

what lights come on? And pressing the pedel past the point (its like a two-step) press and then there is that extra step at the end? Thanks

zerochief 02-06-2008 12:43 PM

Can't confirm just this moment but later today I will.

dpgx5 02-08-2008 04:36 PM

Any update on this I just experienced the hesitation stutter, when I was on a slight uphill stop for a light. I didn't think I did a jack rabbit but the weather was rainy all day (wheel slip maybe), and I was a 1/4 tank. I have 2003 3.0. Also to note, my wife said car was wobbly in the rain, possible tire issue causing the sputter or engine? Thanks

x5GuyInLA 04-29-2008 02:10 PM

you can also try to reset the throttle response. i think the procedure is turn to position 2 for 10 seconds, turn off for 10 seconds, then turn engine on. if you do a search, you should be able to find the exact procedure.
