22" Style 168

im planning to get some rims soon, and trying to decide which ones to get, and i happen to come across 22" style 168's on ebay. What do u guys think? anyone have any pics with 22 168's installed??

20s would be the biggest that I would want to go on the 168. They already look like wagon wheels in 20s. The rubberband thin tires for the 22s will exacerbate the "wagon wheel" effect.

They look sick.. go for it!!!!!!!

22s, not my ride.

Theres been two x5s in my family and between them, i've driven on 17s,18s,19s, 20s, and 22s.

17 and 18s = comfort
19 and 20s = sporty and firm
22s = very firm but you feel like your on rails on the hard turns.

I dig the look!! I have always thought 20's on an X5 look a bit small.....

dr.jay 01-05-2008 12:09 AM

Damn they look good!!!!

streetsoffire 01-05-2008 12:20 AM

j0nblayz: If you gonna get a stock looking wheel, jump on those wicked-fast. Did you get a gander at the X Krunk Man posted? Tell me thats not a smokeshow! Hot like fire! Everyone sez 22s are too firm, too stiff, too big. Those kats are giving you an opinion ( I doubt any of them has rocked 22s). I roll on 22s, sometimes at 145mph. I guess now I can sell my second set of 87s and get those and roll 22s all year long.......

:iagree: It's really not bad at all. A little louder, a little more bumpier, but the car handles a heck of a lot better, and looks damn good too. :D

rastaFarai 01-05-2008 01:27 AM

i was thinking of getting those in 20, but those pics off the 22 look HOT!! Go for 22's, post pics.

Hal88 01-05-2008 01:49 AM

Those rims are huge!! Very nice, and they are not ghetto either.

JayX5 01-05-2008 03:36 AM

Kinda big but i love it!!

toohotdoc 01-05-2008 03:53 AM

i would go for it if i needed new shoes:thumbup:

I don't think there will be any handling advantage running 22s over 20s. Unless you are are running wider tires on the 22s. Infact, if you are not, then the added weight will actually cause things to get touch more "lazy" in the corners.
They look great though.

villajoe 01-05-2008 12:03 PM

not crazy about 168's...but those dont look too bad in 22's. how about 87's in 22's?

DocMike 01-05-2008 12:19 PM

i like it! Wish i would have got these instead of my 20's infact i may put my 168's up for sale now

Might as well go for my rims then. ;)

chusteveb 01-05-2008 03:58 PM

Side profile looks great with less wheel gap than the 20's! But from the front and the back for that matter, the stance looks a little tall to me. Do we know if that is stock suspension? If it's a 4.8is, then what height setting is that? I wonder in a side by side comparison with one on 20's, what the overall height difference would be? I think I'd like those 22's if it was lowered an inch so that the roof sits back at the original height. Higher center of gravity will more than counter whatever is gained in handling going from 20's to 22's.

MORE PICS

Islands52 01-05-2008 04:55 PM

That 4.8 is AWESOME!! :eek

2002Silver4.6is 01-05-2008 05:32 PM

I suppose you will have to alter the speedometer to account for the overall larger wheel size. How do you do that on an X5?

I would also consider going non-staggared so you can rotate front to back.....

The overall diameter is about .5 inches taller... i dont think its enough to alter the speedo that much

Anmar Hussain 01-05-2008 06:07 PM

Yes, they're awesome but I'd recommend you install the 4.8is kit aswell so that the wheels don't look out of place since they're 22''...

they space the wheels out farther from the wheel opening, making a fuller look.
since these wheels are already 1/2 inch wider, it is not really neeed IMO.

arizonad54 04-12-2011 11:55 PM

Is it possible to get these anywhere these days? I did my lazy man ebay and googly search and have had no luck in three days of searching :(
