Remote Key Head Charging
 

I know the remote is charged through the ignition but does anyone know if the key is charged with the car off?

The reason I ask is that my spare key is dead and was wondering if I could just leave it in the ignition overnight or if the car needs to be running.

I would not expect it to charge when the car's off. The manual says that the battery is automatically charged in the ignition lock while driving.

No, its the older style key I'm referring about for my E46 which is the same on the E53.

I was just curious if anyone knew.
