Phantom "revving" of 2005 4.8is X5 ??
 

BMW dealership has no answer to this issue: I am worried of the safety implications!!

On two or three occasions lately, while in park, my X5 revs way up as if the gas pedal was pushed to the floor and back instantaneously. Nothing it touching the gas pedal (ie, floor mat, foot etc).

I am worried that this could happen while in "drive" at a red light, or worse, at a cross walk.

Has this been reported at all out there?

The dealer cannot "reproduce" the problem nor are there any indications on the diagnostics that a problem exists.

Any feedback would obviously be greatly appreciated!

Never heard of that ever.....not really sure what that is..

it's an electronic throttle, so it has to be a computer issue. BTW the brakes can hold back the car even at full throttle

It has happened to me before....I started the X and was just sitting inside, waiting for it to warm up a little...I realized a minute later that the revs were jumping...I was not touching the pedal...I got scared at first but I turned the X off and started it after 5 mins....It has not happened since then...It happened when the X had about 1000 miles on it...it now has 15000 miles on it.....I cant help you much but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone..:thumbup:

Happened to me once too.
I did have my valvetronic levers and shafts replace recently though.

I've had that happen, kept going from idle to 1500rpm and back. It was like a ghost was tapping the gas every 2 seconds.
I couldnt get my independant mechanic to reproduce it so I swapped cars with him for a couple days.
Once it did it for him he thought it might be a throttle position sensor.

It turned out he was right.
I cant remember how much it was to fix, so I'm betting it wasnt to much seeing how I remember all the costly repairs.
I do remember that there were 2 TPS's but only one had to be changed.
