aircon problem
 

Guys,

I drive an 02 X5 3.0d euro with 30k . I noticed that when I switch my aircon on, no cold air comes out. All the aircon lights are on . I switched off the aircon and waited several seconds and the aircon was back to normal. Suddenly, the aircon just shut did not want to blow air no matter how many times I switched it off. I did some research in this forum and found out it could be a simple FSR (final stage resistor). I brought my X5 to the stealership last Monday for a check up and explained the problem. After several days my service advisor told me it was indeed the blower resistor but my auxilliary fan also was not working even with the new fsr. They said they did a thorough electrical check of the wiring and everyhthing looks okay. They recommended I change my auxilliary fan assembly which would cost me around USD800++. Gosh, that hurts my pocket dudes.

Just wanted to check with you guys if anyone has encountered a similar problem.

Problem solved ! Stealership changed blower resisitor ( FSR) and auxilliary fan assembly. Total cost : USD1,000.00
inclusive of parts and labor.

IMHO, I should have gotten a second opinion on replacing the auxulliary fan assembly. I suspect the carbon brush was the culprit. Oh well...

Blueagle - Searched the forum and found your post. Guess what? I have this problem now! Brought the X to the stealership for 'maintenance' routinary check and voila - they tell me my airconditioners output is not that cold and my aux fan is not working :( huh?!? Since your post was around 3 years ago for this issue, I'm wondering what $800 is worth now? $800 x P43 = P34.4k? Or the $ was higher in 2008? Thanks!

If you already changed your FSR ( final stage resistor) and aircon stil does not work, the next thing to look at is your aux fan assembly. I had my aux fan changed 3 years ago by the stealership. This was my second time. The original aux fan lasted 6 years. I then developed another problem which is in another thread of mine in this forum called STOP: ENGINE LEVEL OIl Pressure error message. My aux fan again broke down so I had to change it for a third time plus replacement of oil sensor to solve the problem.

BTW, these are common problems of our E53 X5 diesel models so just keep an eye on your car if you ever encounter such problems in the future HTH..

FYI, I do not go to the stealership anymore for maintenance of my X5...:D

Thank you blueagle. Im guessing you're from ADMU ;) Just a backgrounder: The service adviser of the stealership informed me that my freon was only half filled and that my aux fan was not working. There was no mention of an FSR (thanks for this info!), is the FSR the sole reason why the aux fan stopped working? The aux fan cost PHP46k (around US$900++).

Also, regarding the oil sensors you've mentioned, is this related to your 2nd (or 3rd?) aux fan problem? You mean if the oil sensors break down - so does will the aux fan?

I'm planning on leaving the care of the stealership BUT I fear to loose the attention, the professional as well as the excellent quality of their service they give me even if my X is an oldie (if you know what I'm saying). Is there a place similar to the service quality BUT opposite the depressing high cost of the stealership in Manila??? Please point me to the right direction sir! :banghead:

You can try European Motors-Makati. So far , they have taken good care of my X5 up to this day. :thumbup:
