new paint looks whitier but looks good! Also, you might want to get 4.6 exhaust tips, running boards, 20" wheels style 87 and change the decals to 4.6is to complete the look!

:iagree: with everything EXCEPT the 4.6is badges. Just debadge it...but do not re-badge it.

zerochief 01-24-2008 12:23 PM

20" staggered 87's would be the 1st thing I would do next; 87's really compliment the spoiler kit! Check out DrewX5's similar X:

running broad is the next item on my list. I will get this [ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-B...spagenameZWDVW ] by next month when I go to Asia for vacation !!!!!!!

Bimmer360 01-24-2008 01:17 PM

Definitely nothing wrong with it and looks nice but it doesnt look OEM. The aluminum goes all the way to the end on both sides on that ebay item, OEM doesnt, as far as i know. But its your call!

yes! the non-oem running broad is wider and stick out much further than the oem running broad. And that's also the reason I love this one more than the oem one !!!

actually isn't it quite the opposite. People have complained that the OEM running boards stick out too much while these replicas are merely a cover over the sideskirts...

Oem running broad [ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-X...1073QQtcZphoto ]

non-Oem running broad [ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-Brushed-Aluminum-Running-Boards-Step-Board-X5-E53_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33650QQihZ022QQitem Z350016897753QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW ]

compare about two picture, then you can tell the non-oem one is much bigger !!!

acitydweller 01-24-2008 03:44 PM

Whether it is or isnt, each owner will have their on preferences. Mine came with OE's so I'm not complaining :)

Jumbosushi 01-24-2008 05:10 PM

$40
the bodyman only charge me for paint money !!!

zerochief 01-24-2008 05:17 PM

OEM $625 vs. $350 non-OEM quite a difference, but I still would go with OEM. Who am I to talk, I don't have running boards... yet!

Those prices are from the Morristown BMW forum. I used to use the same part# to call a few of my local BMW dealers for price quote, then I got $9xx list price, and $7xx mechanic price. So $575 + shipping or NJ tax is the best price ever !!!!!!!!!!!!1

RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 4.6is Rear bumper trim panel - HP

Can anyone describe the contents of part# 51-12-7-073-518 (all that the RealOEM description states is "Set of fittings rear" and nobody at the BMW part shop seems to have a clue either).....

I'm assuming that this contains the adhesive, screws, clips etc needed to attach the rear 4.6is spoiler, (part# 51-12-7-062-601), but it would be nice to know exactly what? :dunno:

thx

teknic 12-16-2009 03:35 PM

Adhesive you can get from your local hardware store along with the four of five screws you need to secure it to the car.

When you say adhesive are you referring to 3M double sided tape or a special adhesive of some sort? I just want to make sure I attached the 4.6is rear spoiler with the exact OEM hardware used by BMW rather than using windshield epoxy adhesive and regular self taping screws as the DIY post indicated. I'm assuming 51-12-7-073-518 will contain all of that?

I think i have this kit lying around somewhere left unused. I can snap a picture later and post. After ordering it and going through the install process, I found that the items in that kit were useless. I didn't use adhesive tape or windshield sealer either. When you first get the rear spoiler/valence, it comes with plastic tabs that the Xoutpost link on the homepage suggests you should remove. I kept them on and actually used them with stainless screws to hold it in place on the bumper cover.

teknic 12-16-2009 03:49 PM

You can choose any way you want to actually do it. Personally, I followed the instructions from the DIY and had no problems.

Actually the "plastic tabs" that the DIY suggests that you remove are not the one you used to screw the piece to the car, but are the inner tabs that you'll notice after being removed with a dremel tool or a good blade( like i did myself) gives you a more snugged/perfect fitting of the spoiler to the car. Just my $0.02

For the rear no 3M double sided tape or a special adhesive need just use 7 seft taping screws (Installation time 5 minutes max):D

You make it seem very simple. Would you mind indicating the measurements of the self tapping screws. Are they all the same length/diameter? What about possible water collecting inside without the proper tape/sealant? Thanks for the input.

mrbmwx5 12-16-2009 05:00 PM

It is very simple.... You need 7 seft tapping screws in lenght of 1'' to 1'' 1/4.no need to worry about the water collecting inside .

03MstyleX5 12-16-2009 05:19 PM

^^ doesnt seem like the proper way to mount that rear lower spoiler. my question is how do those other fins on the side remove. i need to have one filled and painted and i would rather take that piece instead of having it painted on the car.

Thanks for the input. I'd be interested to hear from those with 4.6is or 4.8is X5's if their rear spoilers are fastened with some kind of adhesive + self tapping screws (or rivets) or just w/screws. I would prefer to follow OEM procedures as much as possible.

You put screw on the side before you snap on those side caps.:stickpoke
BTW you don't need a rocket science to put on bmw body kit.

nra0707 12-16-2009 06:21 PM

I did it exactly the way MrBMWx5 did. Use self tapping or pre-drill holes with the dremel/drill. There are no instructions on how to install the rear valence. At least none that I could find anywhere. That's why I didn't use the OEM kit. It's useless, plus there are parts in there that I couldn't figure out how they install.

Halston Pitman 12-16-2009 06:28 PM

I am a newb on this front but is there a 'kit' for an 04-06 4.4i to update the looks that is as simple as adding on the 4.6iS?

mrbmwx5 12-16-2009 06:29 PM

If you prefer to follow OEM procedures... You need to cut slots into the bumber just like you would like to install the fenders flares with OEM procedures to able to use the OEM hardware kit .

Only aftermarket stuff have the reps kit that looks like 4.8is....Or you can just add the OEM 4.6is on to facelift X5.

The facelifted X5's use the same rear valence as the pre-facelift X5's. The 4.8is bumper is a complete assembly, so there is no 4.8is front valence that can be added on. There have been users on here that have fitted the 4.6is front valence onto their facelifted X5's by using 3M double sided tape.

I had previously installed the rear lower flares following the OEM instructions (cutting slots into the bumper) so I don't mind doing this for the lower 4.6is spoiler.
The hardware kit (part# 51-12-7-073-518 ) is only $30 bucks so if it gets too complicated I'll just add the adhesive and self-tapping screws like you showed me. I just wanted to know if anybody knew what the kit contained before ordering it from the stealer........

mrbmwx5 12-16-2009 07:48 PM

the hardwarekit contained same stuff (flat clips w/slot cut out)that you use to installed your lower bumber supports.

I think I'll go with a hybrid route, 3M double sided tape + self-tapping screws. I'll also either shave off the tabs or fold them to the side in case I ever want to part it out. I think I'll skip cutting out the slots this time around.

Thanks for all of the input. I'll be sure to post pics once the installation is complete.

I went ahead and purchased the OEM hardware kit for installing the 4.6is rear spoiler (part# 51-12-7-073-518). I'd be interested in knowing what the 3 rubber triangles are for? The metal clips and rivets are pretty self explanatory.

Hi

Is it possible to buy the front and rear spoiler separately at BWM?

The rubber/plastic (?) trim around the exhausts openings in the bumper are a part than can also be bought separately?

Thank you

I'm portuguese, sorry for my ban english :S

Can you help me? Are that parts sold separately?

I have a 2005 X5 3.0d, and as I understand, for my car it needs to be the 4.8is front part, burthe rear part is the same in 4.8is and 4.6is, right?

Thank you

Yes, that is correct. The rear is the same, but the front is the 4.8is bumper

Do you guys think that 4.6IS kit that I realy love would look decent on a Tan X5?
Also I am doing my Grille black, and would like your opinion do to just the out rings black or entire grill? Inner part is beige and kind of goes with than (not to over do it).

Also, I'm thinking, Glossy or Mate?

Hi

Is it possible to buy the front and rear spoiler separately at BWM?

PS.to other members!I am just trying to make it easier for my fellow countryman to understand, but basically ,I am just saying what you guys already said, just added a price for the exhaust trims and a few more things :)

Its a matter of personal taste,of course, but yes I think the 4.6is kit looks great in any colour.
I sprayed my grill black gloss,as I thought the matt would be a bit dull!
My grill was the basic chrome/black (non V8),so I just had to spray the "outer rings" and left the oem ABS plastic colour.

Yeap, that what I thought too, about Glossy paint.
Thanks alot.

Thank you guys, I know what I need, just need do search for it in ebay.
Thank you
