Rear window regulator / High mileage PM?
I was pulling out of the gas station today and was raising my right rear
window. Big popping sound and window fell down into door, won't operate. I assume broken regulator. I went to this very helpful site and saw the info on removing door panel. I have done all recommended and the rear panel seems stuck about the door handle. I did see and remove the screw in door handle area, removed the rear quarter window shade. Any suggestions? What do you think broke? The cables, the window clips?? I had my driver door window go a couple years ago. It was a pulley cable that separated. Now they use a solid pulley to eliminate that one. BTW, I have 113,000 on my X5. I drive a lot of freeway here in FL so hoping to run this machine over 200K. I've done the sparkplugs, radiator fluid, and always change oil / filter at 10,000 miles with synthetic. What about ATF fluid? I see it recommended here, how much does it take and approx cost? Is is DIY?? Thanks all Tom |
Welcome to X5World! :welcome:
This happened to me a few months ago on the rear passenger side window. I do remember having a hard time getting the panel off at the door handle. If I recall correctly, I tilted the panel counterclockwise, played with it a bit, and it finally popped off. There's a metal clip there behind the door handle that is tough to unhook. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. All the best, Zach |
thanks for input
I shut the door with the door release cable unhooked from handle.
Now I can't get the door open! I guess this is time for help from a shop! Any ideas? I guess you have to try to pull on the black T ended cable to release door, so far too hard to grab! over......... |
You can't open it from the outside?

I had the same issue last week
I head the same pop on the drivers door...definately the regulator. I spent $380 at the deal but now the part has a two year replacement from BMW. It might be worth it to bite the bullet and hit the local dealer....talk about a pain in the kiester!

I got a $100 labor and $95 part from a local Power Window specialist shop.
I hate that price let alone $380! Can't open door with exterior door handle either......... I guess I'll have a 75% accessible car for now! TG |

Window
Please when I heard $380 I threw up in mouth considering I purchased an extended warranty, but guess which part of the window was not covered. If you said the regulator...you are a winner. Vanna please show our contestants what they have won!
If it would have been stuck in the up position I would have shopped it but since it was a Sat morning and this happened on a Friday nite....I paid the pipper. :zoom: :zoom: :zoom: |
I'm just waiting for this to happen to me. Is the part number the same for all windows? If so, it sounds like it is prudent to have one on hand if you have an independent mechanic that can fix it :(

:bawling: Same thing happened to be while driving back from picking up my X5 in Staten Island - Elite Auto Glass in Denver said it was the rarely used window that seems to break - I guess it's that old adage, "Use it or lose it". Thought I had busted the window, the cracking noise was so loud. :tsk:
