Right side mirror back up feature - disarming it?

2005 X5 4.8is

When put in reverse, the right side mirror automatically adjusts downward (safety feature) to see,....um, I guess...any potential "thing" that one may back over that is RIGHT NEXT to the back rear tire.

I hate this feature and wonder if it can be completely disarmed?? My backup beeping sensors are enough for me for the immediate area around the rear right side.

I am MUCH more concerned with cars, people, things BEHIND me 10,20+ feet away. Now it is impossible to check the side mirror for, say, reverse lights from another car in a parking lot backing up. It has created a HUGE blind spot.

I could give a hoot about my tire or rims getting damaged on a curb, and much more concerned with a bicycle rider, jogger or whatever on my right rear side.

Of course, unless the BMW engineers had a rash of people sitting right next to the right rear tires waiting to be backed over....think not.

set your mirror switch to the passenger side and it will disarm it.

This can be annoying! Another cool feature is that if you hit the little square button to the left of this switch your mirrors will fold in. Kind of handy in the car wash!!
