3 kids

Hi

Can the X5 accomodate three kids? I am thinking of buying a 2005 one, which does not have 3 rows (not that the 3rd row is big).

My configuration would be one 6 year old, one 3 year old and one infant. So one Britax car seat, one booster seat and one graco seat turned backwards.

Can two car seats and one booster fit in the back? How about 3 car seats across?

Thanks!

Yes! it can fit 3 car seats in your back seat.
I have 2 car seats in my X5 now . Between the two car seats, there is still plenty room there!!!

That might be an exaggeration :)

The back seat is very wide, you can seat them, however cargo space is limited .

keano016 02-09-2008 05:40 PM

Really? I thought it has a pretty decent cargo space. I mean they can fint a 3rd row on it.

My other car for consideration is Sequioa. Obviusly a different type of a vechicle, bigger, but terrible on gas and not a BMW. I have an 3 series and it rides so well even after 7 years of ownership.

As much as I love my X (and thats alot), as far as space, it is little more than a 5-series wagon. 3 across the rear is not only tight, but your kids will have little on the side of personal space (especially with a Britax, which are huge), and no adult can sit back there to assist.

Of your two choices, I think you ae better off with the Sequoia, or an E70 with a 3rd row.

i would do the sequoia - or my fav - the nissan armada

I don't see why it wouldn't work. The 6 year old could be in the middle and the seat would use a regular seat belt for mounting. The 3 year old would be on one side and depending on their weight they could use the LATCH points. The infant on the other side in a seat using the LATCH points. The 6 year old would have to do a little climbing to get in and out, but that's about it. They should be familiar enough to belt themselves up properly. The other 2 would need assistance and so should probably be on the sides as I mentioned before.

Don't forget to have the side door airbags deactivated if you have them. Also don't forget to attach the car seat tethers properly (so many people seem to skip these for some reason). Good luck (and congratulations!).

I have two in boosters and just tried today to sit a reverse facing infant seat between them. Way tight....Go the Yoda route. For two kids its fine. Room to put stuff in the middle for them and so forth. If you have any ideas of taking vacations in this vehicle you pick, you will need to consider something bigger. Again, like the toyota.

Just my 02.......

I'm not sure what you mean by the "Yoda route." In any case I have a buddy with a suburban and 3 kids in forward facing car seats (not boosters) and it's super tight on that back seat too. You could try buying a narrower car seat (Britax just introduced one). But otherwise I'd be surprised if you could find a car wide enough to easily accomodate 3 car seats.

fast4d 02-10-2008 04:46 PM

it will be tight with 3 car seat in back.

does the toyota require premium gas? bmw requires premium so take that into consideration. the 4.4 X5 will give you about 16-18 mpg combined. the 6 cylinder, maybe 20mpg

TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP.

I think Toyota offera 4.7 V8 and a 5.7 V8. 2xx hp and 381 hp, respectively

Are you saying the X5 requires premium? My 3 series E46 does not require premium. The one I am looking at is a 2005 3.0 with 29k milles for $30,9 versus a 2006 Sequioa (4.7) with 16k (one owner) for $29,9 before we start barganing . Similarly equiped. I do not think the X5 has the premium package, nor the sport package, but has lather (or letherette). It has a moonroonf but I think it is standard?

From what I could find it seems that Sequioa has about 61 inch of shoulder space and X5 has about 55 inches.

The nice thing about the Sequia is that you can car pool other kids, ride visitors in the car as well, etc. But BMW is so fun to drive.

rastaFarai 02-11-2008 11:27 AM

the BMW requires 91 or better premium gas. The gas tank will have a sticker on it that says that. My sister-in-law was about to put reg gas in it when she borrowed it, and the sticker warned her LOL. Great to know my car tells others to treat it well when i'm not around.

The X5 is a great car, but honestly if I had 3 kids I would probably go with the Sequioa. My mgr has an X5 and she has 2 8mth old twins and a 3 yr old. so 2 infant car seats and 1 booster seat in her back row. And she said it was cramped. She just bought the Honda Oddyssey minivan - which comes equiped with everything.. if space is ur issue, go Toyota.. hate to vote against the bmw, but I think your kids will thank you in a few years as they grow.

X5Dawg 02-11-2008 12:46 PM

"Yoda" = Toyota

Better yet, get rid of the kids and enjoy the X!!! :nanana: j/k

keano016 02-11-2008 01:29 PM

Do you guys think that 2005 3.0 with 29k milles for $30,9 (no premium, no sports) is a good value.

Which package and year has the updated look on the dashboard? Not the yellow led, but the more silverish look?

TowX 02-11-2008 10:38 PM

I couldn't do it in my X5...

Daughter wanted 2 friends (all 5 yrs old) to go sledding with us last week. 3 boosters (2 Britax and one Recaro). Yes, you can fit them in across the back..... barely. But was virtually impossible to buckle the belts. Outboard seats were resting against the doors which isn't a safe situation. Since we were just going a mile, I went with it. But I won't do it again. If I had 3 children in car seats, I'd get a different car... or (choke) a Honda Odyssey.

If it is low enough AKI to potentially cause predetonation, then the engine computer retards the timing sufficiently to prevent engine damage. The result is less power and less mileage, if the AKI is low enough. Some drivers won't notice a thing, others will notice it immediately.

My last three vehicles ran fine (full power, full mileage) on mid-grade 89, and not so well on regular 87. I use 92 on the 535 as it is turbocharged and I see no reason to push the envelope (meaning it can take more advantage of higher octane fuel). Fuel varies widely in quality across North America, so owners in some regions will see an impact as soon as they go below 91/92. Your fuel in Edmonton is likely from the same refineries as we see in Vancouver.

BMWLOVER 02-12-2008 12:48 AM

oh thanks man. imma start using premium gas. i just got x5 i never knew that.

08WhtX5 02-12-2008 10:26 AM

I would think three car seats would be super tight, especially buckling them and getting them in and out.

We have three kids but only one in a booster and they fit fine.

You could always go down to a dealer with your car seats and try it out.
