Pops-A-Dent (Does it work)?
I did a small dent on my X5, I know, I know, this is not a specific X5 issue, but being this community so experienced, I figured somebody may help.
So, does the Pops-A-Dent product work? Has anyone tried it? http://www.asontv.com/automotive/pops-a-dent.html The small dent is about 1-2 inches wide, and definitely not too deep. I am really concerned about the paint, since this product uses a "special" glue. Any thoughts? |
Never used it, but I'm guessing it works "OK". I'd bring my car to Dent Wizard before trying that thing though. At least those guys have a ton of experience with stuff like that... GL!

Find a talented and patient paintless dent repair guy and never look back.

I dont know about the kit. But I have removed a small dent.
you just need a glue gun. Fasten the "glue rod" in the middle of the dent and gently pull it out. The metall have some memory so it will try to get back to original state. but anything big, go pro as everybody says. |
it will work as long as there isnt a kink in the dent other wise u will see the kink... like if its just pushed in it will take it out... but if the metal is too thin it will take it out further passed the others so be careful if u use it on economy cars..

what chemical do you recommend? to remove it? |
A friend of mine used the ' Ding King ' on his 325 and it worked great. It will only work on non creased dents like everyone has said. I have a small dent on my x5 that we're about to try it on and I'll let you know how it turns out. This is a historic post for me it's my first!

it smells like rubbing alc..

that would be really easy i would have to try it.. |
I dont know the correct word for the "glue rod". But you feed the glue gun with some hard glue, which come in different color and hardness. it looks like a big clear pencil. but you can of corse use different things to attach to the dent. but it easy to remove the glue and the "rod" with a hair dryer after you pulled out the dent. if this made anything clearer.

its a hot glue gun and its a hot glue stick... the one that i had with mine is black so maybe its stronger than the other stuff?? |
just try with the black stick. you should use the stronges/hardest glue. if not, the stick and glue will just loosen when you try too pull out the dent. and you need to clean the area with the dent so the glue will stick.

As for the chemical, I am not sure but I think it was alcohol. Make sure to put polish and wax after bc it will probably dry out the coat. |
I have used this technique several times. but it is always different from time to time and where the dent are. but here is what I did.
clean the dent area, with alcohol, white sprite etc.. have the glue gun hot and ready. take a new glue stick and place a lot of hot glue in the middle of the dent and attach the unused stick and let it sit for at least 15 min... try then to pull the dent out with the glue stick. remove the glue and stick with a hair dryer you may have to do this several times if the dent is big or you did not pulled it correctly. as stated you should always wash and polish the dent area after. Hope this was any help:) |
My wife got caught in a hail storm last year with softball sized hail (yes softball, size hail) and my X5 had hundreds of small dings on the hood, roof and tops of the door panels. I went to the local Cars Collision Center here in NWI to attempt the paintless dent removal, rather than replace the panels.
Checking the suface under black light before and after it was amazing. Not a single dent was left. I say let a professional do the work, unless you really know what you are doing... |
thank you all!
