Getting Frozen door latch fixed...

Alright guys and girls....I finally broke down and made an appt at the dealer this wednesday to get my drivers door latch replaced...Damn freezing weather and constant precipitation around here has made me reach my boiling point. I've read the DIY on here but it seems quite vague and I dont want to screw anything up especially the airbag and the error code I will get.

The dealer said, it would cost $429 including parts and labor...It is a new insulated part supposedly that won't freeze like the original part. Nothing more embarrassing then having to crawl in the drivers seat from the passenger side when you're trying to go somewhere in your BMW. Enough is enough!

A little less embarrassing method to get in is to lower your windows with the key and then to open the door from the inside handle. I've had this problem and found this to be an easier method until I get my door handle repaired/replaced.

we all know thats lower the windows to open from inside,BUT it frozen and the windows not roll down at all.

Good move! I honestly didn't try that method because everytime, the windows have been frozen and wouldn't move anyway until the car warmed up, so I avoided that maneuver entirely...

I've had the problem of frozen windows also, so I'll open the rear door and pull on the front door handle from the inside. Still embarrassing but at least you won't get snow and dirt all over the passenger seat. The only caveat is the door lock will get stuck open occasionally if you open it from the interior and you won't be able to close the door. That's also a possiblity if you open the passenger door normally when it's extremely cold. Once again speaking from experience.

Yeah I hear ya..There's all kinds of different methods...I've resorted to wrapping the door handle in seran wrap if the weather forecast calls for rain or snow in freezing temps...It actually does work..and you can open the door the next morning without any probs (after you remove the seran wrap of course). But i'm fed up with it. . ..I just want it replaced and taken care of so I dont have to worry about it anymore.
