Updating E53 Nav from 4:3 to 16:9

My 2000 X5 has MKII OS, 1/28 software version. Can I upgrade to 16:9 without upgrading the O/S? And to upgrade my software version, do I just download it, burn it and insert into the nav system? Can I burn it ot CD-ROM, or does it have to be DVD?

To upgrade you monitor? Yes, Homepage section "4:3 Nav screen to 16:9 widescreen retrofit" And there are articles and thread about the proper way of burning OS, format, software, etc. SEARCH is your friend.
