When to replace CV boots?
What are the tell-tale signs it is time to replace the CV boots?
My front CV boots (inner? outer?) show wear but no tears.... Thanks! |
Outer only..inner's never go bad usually. its always outer. You wanna do it at about 75k miles or more on your mileage....Garuntee they will fail at that mileage..

When you start seeing greasy alloy rims, that's time to replace.

This is one of those things I think you just let fail, then replace. Key is to replace them quickly once they do fail to avoid getting any grit/road crap in the CV joint itself. You should notice grease on the inside of the rim or to be sure make it a habit to take a look under periodically. Mine tore at around 55K miles after 4 yrs on the road.

I saw cracks develeoping in one of my boots. so wife takes it to the dealer. they called me back saying it's fine. I told them change it anyway and give me the old parts. I took a look at the boot and it's got a crack all the way around. except it's not cracked all the way through.

I just had one tear and replaced it at 50k.
