Replacing X5 keys - Question

Hello Folks,

Some one broke into my apartment on monday night and got away with some stuff. I was away visiting my client's location in Toronto, Canada and my wife and 9 month old daughter were at my friend's place. I'm glad that my wife and daughter were not at home when this happend.

Anyway, coming back to the story. The burglar(s) got away with a bag which had my X5's extra keys (second key + plastic valet key). Luckily, the X5 was at the PHX airport parking lot  and no harm done. I got home this morning after learning this incident and filed a police compliant.

Now, I don't feel safe thinking that some one has that extra key for my X5 (I'm lil paranoid ....). Would like to replace the complete keys. Can some one let me know the $$$ involved to replace the keys? Also, by any chance, can this be done under warrenty (I know I'm too much greedy :mmm:).

Mine is 2004 X5 4.4i with 37xxx miles and still under factory warranty until next year.

Thanks Folks!!!

Hi there.
My sympathies for the "incident".
Read here in the forums that an extra key will cost $160-$200 and you will have to program it at a dealer.
This procedure will CANCEL all keys that will not be available at the time of the programming procedure.
No way (I think) that it can pass trough a "warranty"...

No its not a warranty claim.
A Ney key is around the $200 mark, this will stop them getting away with the vehicle but not gaining access as the actual key and barrel will still match.
To completely change the lock barrels and keys will cost around $1400, why don't you claim off your motor or house insurance

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm getting in touch with the dealer today to see the possibilities.

Thanks once again.

Many folks have renters/homeowners insurance. Check with them to see if they will cover it.
