But the extended maintenance is only for 1 year, right? I can't believe a BMW maintenance deal will extend to 100k for a mere $1600.

extra two years, and 50k miles on top of the factory maintenance warranty

It's too late to buy either through BMW for him since he is past 50,000 miles.

Bottom line if you wanna drive a new X you got to be prepaird o pay for sevice

Complete nonsense. I've owned BMW's for over 25 years and I can say that more then 90% of the time dealers NEVER stamp the service book. The only times it gets filled up (or even looked at) are when I write into it. If you sell to a private party then they might be interested in seeing complete maintenance records, but if you are going to trade-in to the dealer for a newer car, forget it, they could care less. I have NEVER had a dealer ask for the book on a trade-in. All they care about is mileage, no accidents, and overall condition. Period. The reason is because they can do whatever maintenance on the car that needs to be done to prep it for a quick sale.

It's for 2 years and with Imola's currrent mileage he'd be at 100K in the next 2 years.

Yeah i know im a maniac for having 56k on an 05 4.8is.. i just wanna know how much this inspection will cost me?

I had the Inspection II done at a local dealer in Atlanta for $318. I have a 2002 4.4 with 65k. I could have done just about everyhting myself, but the price seemed very reasonable and my X is still under an extended warranty and I didn't want to give them any excuse to deny future work on my car due to maintenance records.

After seeing a few of the prices listed here I am a little worried my inspection II may not have covered as much as some others. Here is a list from my invoice on what work was performed;

filter element
micro filter
air filter insert
oil 5w30 syn
fuel system cleaner
windshield washer adjustment
plus they inspected the car for other items needing repair.

Although it wasn't part of the inspection II I had them flush the brake fluid and coolant becasue I had just purchased the car used and didn't know the service history.

So if there is no record then what is stoping you or dealer or anyone else from adjusting the milage? How can you as a buyer get some inssurane that the mileage is right. Dont try to state that it can't be done on a BMW, becouse it can

Well tampering with an odometer is a felony I believe. In addition, the readout of the odometer is not the only place where the mileage is stored on a BMW. Any discrepancy between what is displayed and what the OBC has stored is recorded as a fault that any BMW can then readout.

Besides all that, the book tells you NOTHING about a service history. If you take your car to a BMW dealer (which would be a reasonable thing to do especially for the first 4 years of its life) the service history is put into their database. Other dealers can access this database (at least in the USA). Also, when you register your car you have to declare mileage, etc. So in other words there are LOTS of areas where service history and use of the car would be used to confirm its true mileage. A 20 page book in the glovebox is essentially pointless.

1. It is a felony, so is a lot of other things but people do it to make a buck:)
2. I know about all the places that BMW stores its odometer reading, it is the odometar, OBD, LCM, and newer models eaven in the key and all of them can be changed.
3. The book tels you a lot, by a stamp you can se where it has been serviced and you can contact the shop and ask (they keep the record) The only history that is put to BMW database is Waranty and goodwil work (here in EU) other work is only stored with dealer internaly eaven if it is a BMW dealer.

In EU or in Sweden it is almost imposible to sell a car privatly withouth the book beeing stamped. Dealer will take the car but will pay less becouse you served it your self or becouse you cant prove that the car has been properly serviced.
The last car i had 330 cab i have made the last service with the Alpine Specialist, and did not have the book with me, however i had the recipt with chassies nr and cars registration number so the dealer did not deduct anything from the trade in price, but he first looked at a book, asked about the last service if how and where it was done then tok the car in for checkup.
