no deal - get the 4.4.

Philly X5 03-04-2008 11:08 AM

Thanks for the reply but I am specifically looking for 3.0
So if someone with the similar options and engine gives me some feedback I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Wagner 03-04-2008 11:22 AM

not terrible but I would shoot for closer to 25,000. Mainly, it is an old body style and it isn't gaining any value sitting on their lot.

try to get $29k out the door

Werewolf 03-04-2008 02:32 PM

Wouldn't buy from a dealer for such a new vehicle.

Go private party and use the warranty to fix up any issues, saving yourself at least a couple grand in the process.

the 3.0 liter gets 18mpg in mixed driving and in a world of $3.50 gas, you have the leverage....

FYI I saw a 2006 x5 with 12k miles in Pittsburgh (stick shift) offered at $32K on ebay.

mmpredmo 03-04-2008 03:24 PM

I paid 26,200 for my 2005 4.4 last month at Manheim Auction in ATL with 35k miles, premium package, rear climate package and two new tires. The market isn't that good but if they sent it to auction they may get up to 27 - 28 based on others I saw sell so your price is not bad especially if it comes with the CPO which mine did not.

So you paid 26K for 4.4 at the auction + auction fees probably (which is for Dealers only), he is talking about 3.0 for 29K. I don't see how it's not bad?

cbax5 03-04-2008 03:41 PM

Yeah, 31 seems a bit high for a '05 3.0 to me...

No, its 29K total...no extra fees

mmpredmo 03-04-2008 10:52 PM

The auction fee was 415 so 26,615 with fee and yes, the only reason I was able to buy it this way was a dealer friend. For the discount in price, I only had about 5 minutes to inspect the car due to circumstances beyond my control, I missed a day of work and the final price was very volatile.

I don't think the seller mentioned would be likely to take much less than 29k as it is already almost a losing proposition for them and if they sit on it for a little bit longer, they might get closer to the original 31k asking price as a lot of buyers are impulsive and just look at what the bank will loan them not the true market value of the vehicle.

In my opinion, if it is CPO'd then it's a no brainer and if not it is still a pretty good deal. I am looking at a 30 - 31k investment after warranty purchase.

That said, I believe it will be harder to find a future buyer for blue than the more "classic" BMW colors such as silver or black with tan or black interior.

A lot of X5's at the auction sold for 30k+ as the day went on, the remaining cars dwindled and the colors were more desirable than my kalahari beige. However, my wife liked the beige, didn't care about the sports package and all I wanted was the best deal to minimize depreciation.

Just my opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it.

NC_X5_Guy 03-05-2008 10:57 AM

You can't compare an auction price to what a dealer would sell it for or a private party either, most folks don't have access to dealer auctions.

mmpredmo 03-05-2008 11:04 AM

I was just saying the auction price was not much less than the price he was offered to buy the vehicle. Therefore, I felt it to be a good deal and if I had found one like the one he described and it was not wrecked, I would have jumped on it instead of going through the hassle of the auction.

blk133 03-05-2008 11:06 AM

4.4 v. 3.0 10K diff from the start.

Philly X5 03-05-2008 12:40 PM

I understand that 4.4 costs more then 3.0 but I am looking at the mileage too. Just ran Carfax, which is clean and has only one private owner. Only 18K miles, still on Full warranty. Looks really clean in and out.
I talked to the seller again, the final price is 28500 (down from 31555)
I have all my finances almost ready and will need to pick up this car in NY this Saturday.
For some reason I cant decide if I should do it...I wanted a sport package like in my 330ci right now but to tell the truth I got tired of really stiff and bumpy rides and want something more on a soft side (but not Lexus or Toyota feeling :) + my family will be bigger soon so softer ride will be better for my wife and kids, I think. Also I think 3.0 will be enough for all my/wife’s needs...+ she really likes that Blue Exterior :)

blk133 03-05-2008 12:50 PM

Hey, as long as you like it and everything looks as good as you say it is, I say go for it. Once you set your mind on something that you really like and want, and opportunity comes it is very hard to find a reason for not to buy it. I do see how 3.0 can be a better fit for a lady, but for me it was the engine size/power. Once I felt that difference I knew right away that I want 4.4. And of course if lady likes the color then it is not a negative factor as someone mentioned it here. I say go for it if you'll like what you see in person. Did you ever test drove 4.4?

go for it.

Philly X5 03-05-2008 01:16 PM

yes, i tried 4.4 and really liked it but if this deal is good I might just take it. My friend also selling his 4.4 but its 2003 with 60k, sport/cold packages light green exterior with brown interior First he wanted 26k for it but its negotiable if he would sell it for 22k would you take it???

blk133 03-05-2008 01:28 PM

2003 with 60k light green with brown interior... No

1. 60K= out of warranty. Extended warranty will be another 4K probably if not more.

2. 2003 = pre face lifted front. I like 2004 and up. Of course you can change bumpers, headlights and whatever else is nessesary to make it look like 2004 but by the end of the day it is still 2003

3. I don't like the color combination. Color played a big role for me when I was picking up my X5

4. 22K for 2003 4.4 60K v. 28.5K for 2005 3.0 18k w/warranty I think it's a no brainer what I'd go for. (but I am also not a fan of blue color) sorry :(
If you ever decide to sell it, color might be a big deciding factor. Again, someone might only like blue, so it's up to the buyer.

Good luck w/whatever you decide!

vegasX5 03-05-2008 01:58 PM

I don't think you'll miss the sport package too much. I have a 4.4 w/o sport and I still think it handles well but does not have an overly stiff ride. Everyone that drives it loves what a nice balance it has between sporty and smooth ride. The three biggest factors IMO are: does it fit your needs/do you like it, does it fit into your budget well (even if the price of gas goes up to $4+/gallon, does it have a warranty to cover unexpected costs. If you say yes to those, I'd go for it.

blk133 03-18-2008 11:31 AM

Any update? Did you get it? Pics?

I "piggy-back" this reply...

$29k ..it's like your doing them a favor...pfft... call their bluff

everytime the car sit on the lot the dealership loses...

Philly X5 03-25-2008 10:58 AM

sorry to say but I was too late...someone got it before me :(

My friend still selling his X5 and now he has not much time left so maybe I can have a good deal here, I hope.

Its a 2003 ( I know old stile but I like it) 4.4 with 60K miles. Sport and premium packages, cold package. Light Blue (not sure about the color name) with light interior (but black headliner - nice) in perfect condition, no scratches, interior looks like new. The only option that is missing is NAVI. He wanted 26K but it looks like I can get it for 20K
Is this a reasonable offer or should I bid lower?

Also this will be my first 4.4 not 3.0 so I am alittle paranoid about gas millage...

blk133 03-25-2008 11:05 AM

Philly, if you are thinking about buying an X5, forget about the gas milage or the gas cost. Read my post here: http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...ium-gas-2.html

In the previous post you said it was Light Green with Brown interior. Still talking about the same car?

Philly X5 03-25-2008 02:47 PM

Yes but I was mistaken about the colors.

Philly X5 03-25-2008 02:58 PM

Here is the picture from his camera...it looks grey on it. I think I found the name for this color - its Gray Green Metallic

blk133 03-25-2008 09:23 PM

Looking good! If it's not CPO then check out extended warranty prices. For 60K vehicle you might want to consider it.

Philly X5 03-26-2008 04:11 PM

Ok, looks like I will be a new member soon.

The final price is $20,500.00

Also the guy just installed new tires and brakes
