Battery tender in Toronto Area..

This weekend my X5's battery went down when I went take it out of the garage, I had'nt used it for just over a month, so I boosted it with my van and ran it and used it on Saturday and next day the X5 was fine. Now I need a Battery trickler for the winter I guess..cause I only get to use the X5 during the weekends and if the weather is nasty like we had in the Toronto area for the last 5-8 weeks I never get to take it out even on the week-ends.

BMW sells a trickler for $100 plus Tax, and some people on another BMW forum was mentioning Batter Tender Brand http://batterytender.com/- they even say they are the authorized manufacturer of
Harley-Davidson and BMW battery chargers.

They go for around $60.00 in the US, anyone know if they are available in Canada?

Or if you were using another brand which has worked good..I don't wanna get the Canadian Tire one unless someone has used it, and know about it.

Batt Tender Brand are often on sale here in the States for <$40 USD...

Yes, the BMW and HD units are made by Battery Tender and identical
to the std units, except for logo and price.

Since you have the BT home page, why not give them a call in FL and
see where whom they distribute through in the GWN?
Edit: here's the contact info for BattTenderUSA:
Deltran Corporation
801 US Highway 92E
Deland, FL 32724

Phone: 386-736-7900
Fax: 386-736-6458

Thanks MD, I did call them they did not have any definate name or number to give, they did tell me that to check ATV or Motorcycle stores in Toronto Area, so I gave some a call, I got it from a place called Snow City Cycle Marine, here in Scarborough Kennedy Rd, and lucky me they have a special on them right now so got the BT Plus for $65 taxes in! Instead of Paying BMW $100 plus Tax for the same unit, they look exactly identical.

So if anyone in the GTA is looking for one, now is the time to buy it...

Good job, Bindas...
the only thing the BMW model has that some of the std Batt Tenders
don't come with, is the cig lighter plug in gizmo.

So, if yours doesn't have it, just use the under hood pos and neg lugs.
I use mine on the X all the time; if you run the cord down the inside
fender/interior channel near eng compartment, near the hood stop
rubber lug, you can close the hood gently almost all the way tight.
Remember, Poz on first, neg on last!

MD, wouldn't you just put both clamps on then plug the charger in?

motordavid 03-18-2008 12:55 PM

Yes,
Attach both alligator clamps, then plug in...
But, attach Pos clamp to Pos lug first, then line
up the cable trailing out from under the hood,
(assuming you want it tucked in "close" so you can
lower/close hood), and then attach Neg claw clamp.
Then, plug in.

You should see red light on Tender...after awhile it
will go to red on and green on, then all green when
fully charged and "floating".

Here's a thread I did, showing the routing of the cable and
how I used a simple appliance timer to turn the sumbitch
on once per week:

MD, nice job on the tutorial, just one question, I've been putting the Negative to the 2" protruding stub just across fromt positive terminal, not where you put yours, the dealer told me that's where the negative goes...I was looking in the manual and according to it your right...I wonder if I F#@#ED something up or not by jump starting using the stub...:yikes:

Maybe you Neg lug is in a diff place than my '01 3.0?

My pos is under a lil' black cover that is labeled + and
the neg lug is simply that bolt head sticking out a bit,
on the horizontal side of inner fender, toward the front
of eng compartment. Whatever your Manual shows as
the "points" would be the right place, imo.
