gash in tire
Posted on tire forum...more folks here
Tire is brand new...Michelin Diamaris and got a smallish ( 1/2 inch)gash in one of the raised center channels. The inside of the tire is fine...no evidence of the gash, not even a raised area where the gash looked like it tried to come through. What to do...leave it alone, professional patch to reinforce inside area opposite the gash or god forbid...trash the tire? Thanks in advance for any responses Mike |
How do you spot a 1/2" gash in the middle of your tread?!!
So what does the guy who sold you the tire say? Can you tell how deep the gash is? Specs tell you the tread depth is 10/32", so if it is within that, you should be okay. Insert a folded piece of paper, pointy side in and find the deepest part. Mark the paper and then measure, if it is less than 10/32" you are good to go, if it is deeper than that, you have some decisions to make - replace the tire (if you have road hazard, will cost you nothing), or patch and then take a risk. Me, I always vote for safety first, last thing you want is a blowout!!:wow: Just a FYI, when you are spending +$250/tire, get the road hazzard coverage. |
