X5 Passenger door issue

Hi,

I have a 2003/4 UK X5 and the passenger door is locked shut. Both the interior and exterior door handles won't open the door, there doesn't feel like there is any resistance. The central locking is fine and the windows are no problem. The interior handle unlocks the door on the first pull no problem but both the handles won't open the door after that.

I have seen a few posts on the door actuator issues, but the problem is that because both handles won't open the door I can't see to get the panel off as the dashboard is tight to the door panel and the seat is in the way.

Any advice please.

Its your door handle carrier....that is a big problem if it wont open from the inside or outside. But your door handle carrier needs to be replaced...

Thanks,

Would that account for the fact that both of the internal and external handles don't open the latch?

I've had a similar problem that was related to moisture freezing the lock mechanism. After warming up, it would work again. Replacement mechanisms are designed to prevent moisture getting into the lock.

had the same issue. the dealer was able to break the latch and open the door.
with a pair of plyers try to pull that little lock/unlock pin. it might work for you. I ended up changing the actuator mysleft and paid the dealer $140 to open the door.

Thanks Guys,

It doesn't get cold enough over here to freeze anything !! I can only appreciate the problems you guys must get in colder climates.

I have just temporarily resolved the issue, I was opening the interior and exterior door handles at the same time whilst locking and unlocking the door (its amazing what teeth can do!) to see if I could get any movement in the locking mechanism and I heard a click and the door finally came open! result.. sounded like a sticky catch. I lubed the catch and actuator and it opened and closed every time.. only a matter of time though !!

I have booked it in to a dealer to have a look at it, whilst it there it can have it's drive shaft replaced as I have developed a CV type rattle on full lock right turns whilst pulling away. $1500 for that repair !!

Thanks for your advice guys, it was also really usefull to hear others have Stereo display pixel problems, door issues, ac socket fuse problems etc..

The more you know, the less "frightening" it is. This website taught me what was likely to break & when. Sharing solutions and experiences really helps. That said, it still is very important to find a good mechanic or develope a great relationship with your dealer. I've been fortunate to find both.
