oil dipstick problem

I took my car in around 2k miles ago because it was leaking oil.... They replaced what I believe was the belly pan and all the oil. They put in *i think* 8.5 qts. of oil but not the oil filter..... I checked my dipstick recently to discover that the oil cutoff line on the dipstick is above the "MAX" and about 3mm before the plastic ends..... Is my oil too full? If so, what can I do to remove some? and does it cause any engine damage having it overfilled with oil?? Thanks in advance!

I should add that I checked it the correct way 10-15 mins after driving the X...

I would estimate around 3/4 extra. No worries. A little bit won't hurt anything...

extra oil is not a good thing. But, since most of the x's burn oil, it should even out in a month or so.

Fixed.

If you had an oil pressure gauge you could tell if the extra was causing increased pressure or not.

i think my manual says 9 bottles, but if i do that it exceeds the maximum, so i have been putting just 8 and it's in the middle of min and max.
