Car wouldn't start
 

This is the first time it ever happened to me on my 2002 X5 4.4. So I am not sure what's going on. We don't drive our car that much.

BUT I just replaced the battery little more than a month ago..Wasn't from the dealer. I got a Duralast Gold

All the lights are on, but the ignition just keep on having that "Klank, Klank" sound. And onething I notice is that no electrical equipment would move.
Normally when you turn the key to second starting position, all the electrical equipment is on and you can turn on and off the CD player and stuff. But this time, the light is on, but can't turn on or off, CD play is not playing and you can't change tune, can't move the seat, can't move the steering wheel, the fan is still on, but can't change how fast fan blow. Is it a battery problem or something else? I would probably call someone to come and give me a jump. But wanted to see if there are people that have similar situation.

Yep, sounds like the battery. Did you fully charge it when you installed it? That is the best way to start out... with a good overnight trickle charge. Batteries on the shelf at an auto parts store can very widely in charging state. You said you don't drive it much, so that new battery may have never had a chance to get charged up with long driving (which is still inferior to a trickle charge, imo.). I suggest you either get a charger (Battery Tender, etc.) or take it to Auto Zone for a full charge, which should be free.

Also, this would be a good time to look at other known battery killers such as your Final Stage Resistor which controls AC fan operation. That killed that battery twice in my '02 and is a part that will fail eventually. Do a search and you will find a ton of info on other potential sources of X5 electrical issues.

Thank you NCX... I just tried to take the negative out for 20min and plug back in and now except the internal lighting nothing turns on. Headlight wouldn't turn, display wouldn't light up. I will take it to autozone for a full charge today, and will reply if problem solved.

one question regarding the FSR... my situation is a little different from some of the post I read in the forum. Most times when I turn off the car it still blows from time to time. Is this FSR problem? or something else. If it is, I want to get it replaced right away!

Yessir, that is one typical symptom of a failing FSR. Mine did that before I changed it out. There is also a fan controller issue that can cause the fan to run when it shoudn't. I'll see if I can find the posts about that.

The part is is not expensive and can be changed in 30-40 minutes if you want to save some money. You might want to check with our parts sponsor, Morristwon BMW, for a price.

Just took the battery to Autozone. It is a bad battery.. waiting to get a replacement from their HUB. Will see what happens. Want to say should have gone to dealer and get it changed properly. But then again, dealer charges 200+ and it may still happen. So we will see what happens

Good. At least you can start fresh with a new battery and a full charge. If you have a multimeter, you can monitor the draw on the battery when you turn off the ignition, and can then start searching for the culprit. Good luck!

My dealer want to charge me 380 to replace the thing. The part is around 80.. So I don't want them to do it!
