4.4i black exhaust tip removal

Help please.

Do you know if I can easily remove the Black tips on my 4.4i (2001) exhaust. I want to pull them off so I can slide a single oval on top.

Many Thanks

Bruce

I think they have to be cut off at a muffler shop, then you can attach the new oval ones. Can you tell me where to purchase the oval tips, I think I am going to do the same.

e-bay

I got the ips on e-bay. Thay are for a 3.0 d. But I can cut off the jubilee clips and slide them onto the twin tips. I just think that the black tips make the fit too tight.

To remove the original black chrome tip coming with sport package, you only need to pull and twist the tip outward. Good luck.

Have done this before. Sit behind the exhaust and slowly wiggle them side ways to pull out. You can use a rubber mallet to tap lightly. It takes time but they will eventually come out if there is no rust. Good luck.

OK. AL went as you guys stated. A twist and pull and off they came. I did a backward parachute roll down the drive with the final one which came off way to easily. Many Thanks.

How about posting pics of your X5 before and after installation of new tips.

Would be intrested to know if they go back easily or not.

If so I may remove them for detailing as the gap is narrow betweeen tailpipes - ok if kept clean but awkward to clean on used car.

As long as you are "gentle" in taking them off, they should go back on relatively easily. If you are too rough, you may damage the compression clips that hold the tips on. Also, don't use pliers as they could dent or scratch the exterior of the tip. Just spray a bit of WD-40 (or similar) between the original tip and the tip cover...let soak...and then start twisting and pulling gently but firmly. The more regularly you do it, likely the easier it becomes.

Help

OK. I attempted to post some pictures of my car but failed miserably. Defeated by technology and crushed by my total lack of ability to get some pics posted I have deceided to submit myself to the final humilition of asking for help.

How the hell do you get pictures uploaded. I can't drag and drop. If I use the attach files it goes off with the file path and tells me it has uploaded my pics. It fails to tell mw eher it uploaded them to. As I can't see them I assume they have disapeared into a void. Please talk slowly and use short words this will help me and make me feel that maybe you are as dumb as me.

Cheers

Bruce

after you upload pictures you then click on black paper clip at the top of the message window and select at the bottom "insert all"

PS I talked as slow as I could and used very short words like: "Clip, at, the, top, of" :nanana:

Upload failed

I think the files may be to large Jpg 2,095KB JPEG images.

blk133 04-01-2008 03:04 PM

Once you uploaded it won't upload them again. You have to click on the link next to where it says upload failed and remove them from your "temp" bin. then upload again. To make the files smaller open it in paint and resize them to 50% Save as jpg again.
