wife is looking at an X5...what is an AG package?
 

Hi all, my wife sold her 2001 530 manual m-sport today and put a deposit down (pending car inspection) on 2002 X5 4.4 in steel grey on black interior. 19" mags, sports, with 61k on the clock.

She had her heart on the 3.0, but we found that the engine strained under hard acceleration (engine made a course sound). The 4.4 was effortless, and the color combination/milage was exactly what we were looking for. she found that the weight was more planted (probably due to the weight of the V8, and the wide 19' mags).

She wanted the mags, runnning board, clears lights and sports seats so this car fits our criteria.

So my question is what is the AG package, and how we tell if it has one. It was getting late today so the garage could not pull up the details. The X5 had just come in, and we asked them to call us if one like this comes along.

One garage said that the AG package can be easily spotted with the black liner and the gloss black shadow line around the windows.

This X5 has these (including black chrome tail exhaust tips), but a site I have seen decribes these as optional?

So what is an AG? what options do they have/engine tweeks? are they rare? Is there some areas that we have to be careful off?

thanks all for the advice. car looks mint. the garage has not had a chance to clean it, but it has been taken car of - wax, clean, extra clean carpets - so it gives me some confidence.

sounds like it is just the sport package from the dark tips on the exhaust and the shadow-line trim

sorry which would mean stiffer suspension and a few visual things but power is the same

I have never heard of an "AG package". I know Canada had one or two unique packages we didn't get here in the States. The "Activity Package" is one that comes to mind. (I believe that it included aluminum running boards amongst a few other things.)

From what you are describing, it sounds like the Sport Package. The Shadowline window trim, anthracite headliner, and black chrome exhaust tips are part of that package. According to a quick web search, the Sport Package included the Sport AG package. It was simply an order code, and included Sport Suspension, Sport Seats, different wheels, anthracite headliner, shadowline trim, and a sport 3 spoke steering wheel. Sport AG had no cost, but was built into the sport package. Why break it out with a separate code? It helped manage options that could not be ordered on the same vehicle, ie compatability checks.

Definitely no change in power with any of the sport packages.

Some differences existed (and still exist) in the US and CDN option packages.

great forum btw. I use Maxbimmer.com and e46toronto.ca (I have a 2002 BMW CPO'd 330xi).

My wife is getting excited about this car. looks clean taken well care for. If another one comes along for lets say 2k less, we are not bothered as we know the garage (purchased the her 530 m-sport 1.5yrs ago) and this has the options/low kms we need.

sure... I'll post some pics. car inspection is scheduled for tue, and take delivery on saturday.

funny thing is that the manager really tried to offer financing. even tried to push one month financing and then pay off so he can get a finance kick back! but we pay cash on our cars to minimise dept.

The manager even tried to hard sell the following:-

1. clear coat protector.
2. windshield protector.
3. electomagnetic corrosion protection
4. inside cleaner
5. warranty

I'm pretty anal about detailing our cars and do not let any one touch them, and we will not put much milleage on this X5 as my 330xi is a beater.
