x5 3.0d : fan not spinning?
Hey guys , im new here so please bear with me.
I got a 2006 X5 3.0d (218bhp)... The car has done around 36000km on the clock and ive never had a problem with it, so im just writing here to check whether i might have an issue. Ive never really bothered to look but ive somehow noticed recently when i was filling up with washer fluid that the fan (in front of the engine) wasnt spinning. Ive since checked it up a couple of times, and even after a long journey it wasnt spinning at all.. i thought it might be because of the cold temperatures back home (from 8-12c) but i did give the dealer a call. they said that the fan should be spinning all the time, but very slowly and should only spin up when the engine has really heated up. Thing is my fan doesnt spin at all, it just stays stationary, both when the car is on and after its switched off as well. My dealer asked me to bring this car in, but i really need it in the next couple of days, so wanted to ask members whether anything could happen to it? Also since i live in bulgaria, and bmw dealers are pretty crap, i was wondering whether they could just be wrong... maybe the fan doesnt spin unless the engine is hot ??? please advice  |
Mine does not spin all the time, if you want to se it spin let the car idle for a while after driving and it will spinn.
Now that temp is low, the cold wind when driving is sufficent to cool the engine No worries there mate |
The fan in front of the radiator is accessory cooling for the air conditioning.

I dont have a electric fan infront of my radiator on the X5 (4,4 06)
I have a electric fan on the inside (behind the radiator) and that is all, i dont have the belt driven fan. |
