The guy that did mine said it required a specific programmer that allows them to access the system and rewrite the data.

m5james 07-26-2013 06:22 PM

Rewriting required due to all the keys having already been ordered from the dealership or because all keys have to be specially programmed no matter what? I just assumed I could order a key, get it cut, do the pushing bids the lock/unlock procedure and I'd be off and running...no?

e30cabrio 07-26-2013 06:31 PM

In my case that is true and he cleared the 7 other slots for me (said they were full and a new dealer key would have been useless) but he also said keys not sourced from BMW via their process had to be manually added in the manner I posted.

I am not an expert and am only repeating what the guy that took my eBay keys (2) that appeared to be useless prior to finding him and made them function.

1999 2005 Uncut BMW 3 5 6 7 M Z Series Key Remote Fob LX8FZV Free Program | eBay - this seller said the key will do everything a factory key should do, but then followed in an email saying that for some reason X3 and X5 vehicles have been reported as not being able to get the starting function to work. That makes no sense that it'd work on some vehicles but not others?

This thread started 5yrs ago, so I'm assuming information and availability of keys via aftermarket has changed. I've got one key and I wanna have at least one more. I've got a GT1 laptop if that should make things easier for programming, no?

Did you see the information in post #26? It was only from June of this year.

I clicked on the first link provided in the quote above and immediately saw the "hoax" (slick wording) that is being played on unsuspecting BMW owners...and that is...the wording clearly states that "It does include the electronics and remote portion." It's really common knowledge that any BMW 3 button remote used on the e46/e38/e39/e53 and uses the same RF (radio frequency) that your car uses (either 315 MHz or 433 MHz)...can be programmed to lock/unlock & arm/disarm (FZV & DWA) another BMW model that uses the same...BUT...the key will not be able to START your car unless it has the SAME ISN (individual serial number) burnt into the EWS transponder inside the key that is burnt into the EWS control module & DME/ECU.

This information is not coded with the BMW GT-1 or MoDiC or DIS...this information requires equipment that can read, retrieve, then write this information from your exisiting control modules, then burn it into a blank EEPROM or re-writeable chip that will fit inside your key. (see post #26 for information how the EWS control module/DME/keys are initialized as they come off the assembly line.

The BMW 3 button remote key contains THREE features (which is covered back in post #26):
  1. EWS - immobilizer (requires chip with ISN from BMW to start the car)
  2. FZV - remote central locking (follow instructions posted in post #26 to program key)
  3. DWA - anti-theft alarm siren system (follow instructions posted in post #25 to program key)
You can program these keys to lock/unlock & arm/disarm your car...BUT THEY WILL NOT START YOUR CAR BECAUSE THE EWS CHIP (if inside) DOES NOT HAVE THE ISN (individual serial number) THAT WAS ASSIGNED TO YOUR DME/ECU & EWS CONTROL MODULE THE DAY IT ROLLED OFF THE ASSEMBLY LINE (again, this is covered in post #26).

And we just had a forum member that has posted a mother lode of BMW Tech documents that covers this stuff:

Click this link to read about EWS (the e53 has EWS 3.3): http://project-a8.info/parts/bmw+ssp...05%2520EWS.pdf

I'm trying to read all this from my phone, while at work :D So, ultimately, I just have to goto the stealership or the needle in the haystack guy who has the right equipment...is that what were saying?

e30cabrio 07-26-2013 10:29 PM

That was my understanding.

I called 20 ads from Craigs List to find the guy that did mine.

It was well worth it. He did the two keys I got for under 50 and while he was here did a key for our Mazda 6 for 280.

m5james 07-26-2013 10:50 PM

This is their latest reply...

"we use aftermarket key shell with used electronic inside if that's not a problem for you. If it's cut, then I'll have to charge $5 on top*for the key being returned cut. I think door locks should work and I have instruction to program it." - from eBay seller key_starz or [email protected].

My first thought was about the battery failing earlier than expected due to being used.

e30cabrio 07-26-2013 10:58 PM

Keylessking is who I got mine from. They didn't have the BMW logo but I got two for 6.00 shipped. They are ok quality and work.

NEW UNCUT BMW KEY KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE TRANSMITTER FOB REPLACEMENT

That was the description.

m5james 07-27-2013 04:22 PM

$6 or $60?

Edit: Found your seller, they've gone up in price, but if it worked for you, then great. I just need to find the locksmith with the proper programming tools - http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?n...d=360693218789

e30cabrio 07-27-2013 05:01 PM

The logos were 6 for 2 shipped from China. I'll look fro that seller.
