X5 diesel: fuel economy
Hello,
Please share with us how many fuel your E53 diesel likes every 100 kilometer. Mine likes about 12.5 liter every 100 kilometer. :beerchug: And yours? |
beco,
I drive a 2002 E53 X5 3.0d eur. I have logged on 30,000 ++ kms. My diesel consumption is around 14-15 liters/100 kms (city and highway driving) repairs done so far : replace CV rubber boot replace FSR replace auxilliary fan assembly INSPECTION 1 INSPECTION 2 |
Those mileage figures don't look very good. I got 14.2 l/100km in the city, and up to 10.5 l/100 km on the highway, with my gasoline X5 3.0, and that was with an automatic. I would have hoped to see 11 l/100 km around town, and 8 l/100 km on the highway, for a diesel.

Can confirm JCL's above consumptions.
With my X5 2004 (3.0d, 218ps, Auto, 235-65/17 tyres) I' m having about 9lt/100Km (on highways, with 120-150Km/hr speed) and about 10-11lt/100Km on the city. Car has about 70,000km (I drove 17,000 of them) |
On highways at 110 kmph (no speeding and no braking!) my X5 diesel (2006, auto) can do with 8 liter. But in town, as we know them in Belgium, it is not hard to see 14 liter appear on the screen.
IMO the weight is the ennemy next to the automatic gearbox and the sportpackage with the huge 285 tires. I can image a manual with 235 tires being more economical. But then again, no complaints cause those figures are to be expected with that kind of vehicle. Glad not driving a 4.8is when it's time to fill up with fuel. |
Not sure about getting the imperial / metric conversion right so have used imperial only and my '05 3.0D Sport auto does about 35mpg on motorways - I have seen 37mpg once - and around town this falls to around 27mpg.
I now have 37k8 on the odo and have had the car since new. With price of diesel fuel in the UK now at 117pence/litre it's getting expensive!! Still a petrol version would be even more expensive to run as the mpg is worse. If diesel gets much more expensive I'm going to have to have a long hard think about how long I keep this vehicle. A full tank now costs £108 which equates to about £5.34 per UK Gallon or $10.63 for those who want in USD - and some of the US car users are complaining about $4 a gallon!! |

Those figures are as I would expect to see for a diesel X5, per my post above. Approaching $6 IMP Gal here in Vancouver, equating to $5 per US Gal. |
Hi Guys
recently bought a 3.0d automatic in Poland. Despite the crappy roads i am getting a consistent average of 7.0-7.5l/100km on long trips (max speed about 120km/h and about 12l/km for short trips in time. My combined averages counters are at 8 & 8.5 l/100km since doing about a 1500 kms. When i filled up my tank it was telling me i had about 960km, and has been going down proportiontately. |
My last 12-months average, calculated by me not via the on-board, is 8.6 litres/100km. That's mainly back roads with some freeway, and all in the 110 to 130km/h range, give or take a little.

Mine does 8.5 litres/100K on highway and about 12 around town.
