help please-ticking noise behind A/C - Heater panel
I bought a 3.0d 2004/54 today, I love it, BUT sat in the car whilst the ignition was off and shut the doors and I can hear a ticking noise coming from behind the A/C - heater controls panel, thing is it had been off for a good few hours before, about 4-5 hours. I just cannot make it go away, turned off and on air con, etc etc, should I take to a garage?is it a known issue? Please help, I am really anxious to find out what it could be and will have sleepless nights till I do.
thanks |
Did you ever fix this? I have the exact same issue. I already replaced the FSR and it didn't fix it.

On the front face of the auto ac control panel are two vents. Behind the L/H vent is a small fan that sucks air across a sensor. On my 05 diesel, this fan makes a ticking sound and has done so since new. If you remain in the X, take your key out of the ignition, close all of the doors, the ticking should stop after awhile (not sure how long) as the car goes into sleep mode. Then open a door and it will start up again. You should not be able to hear it over the sound of the engine and general road noise. Try a little experiment. With the fan running, hang a facial tissue (Kleenex) in front of the vent and the fan will suck the tissue onto the vent. Colin. |
sound goes away after 10 minutes
the sound vanishes after 10 or so minutes, follow previous reply, take key out of inition and leave a window open go back after 10 -15 mins and sounds is gone......

It seems that i'll turn the ignition off, take the key out, get out of the car, close the door, lock the door.
Come back in the morning, unlocked the door, open the door, get in, and i hear it as soon as i get in. |

Yup I agree, don't worry, I had the shock of my life when I forked out the cash and then sat in the car without the engine running and heard the noise, suffice to say my cousin was having his car chipped-tuned and I asked the technician about the noise, and he told me it will turn off on it's own. It does stop, previous post says it all, minute you engage the the locks it starts, but it is fine, so just enjoy your car fella.
