Hey guys....

I just have a quick question about gas consumption of a new car...

I was just told that any new car before it hits like 3k or 4k miles, is going to be consuming more gas than it will after it gets broken in...

Is that true?

My fuel consumption hasn't changed since new, but then again, I only have about 16K miles on mine.

mine has only 5k since i got it 2 moths ago the full tank will last only 300 mile in city i get 12.5/gal according to onboard computer? so no matter who drive it me or my wife 300 mile for full tank 65$ :wow: :wow:

according to the sticker i should get in city arround 17mile/gal :rofl: :rofl:


im wondering if any one else has the same problem :dunno:

The EPA figures are very skewed. I did a bunch of statistic reports on it for school.

I did a few different cars, each one varied slightly, but all of them were a mpg to upto 5mpg under the EPA figures.

does that mean ? they advertise the wrong numbers on the sticker :mad:

No. It's against the law for any number to be published on the sticker other than the EPA one. Toyota wanted to put lower numbers on the Prius, but by doing so, they would be breaking the law. You have to look at how the EPA calculates the mileage, which is capturing the exhaust to determining how much fuel was used.

The EPA test sucks, it's very outdated.

I would agree that all cars have a break-in period during which parts bed in, and that mileage and power will improve after that time. 5000 km (3000 miles) is a reasonable approximation of that distance, IMO.

I think that you would get the exact same figure for fuel consumpion as the EPA dyno figures, if, and this is a big if, you could duplicate the conditions. Trouble is, you can't.

You could drive on perfectly flat ground (like the EPA test), and follow the cycle they prescribe (which is fairly sedate), and eliminate wind resistance somehow, and have the air conditioner off, and always have a cold engine in city driving, but those aren't real world conditions. The EPA test is designed for comparison with other vehicles under the same controlled conditions, not as a predictor of actual mileage.

i get only 300 mile per 1 full tank 24 galon? I Think it too much
