Keys (Charging)

Hi everbody,

I've just purchased my first X5, a 2002 3.0i Sport Auto with 38K miles. Just getting to grips with everything and I have a question regarding the spare key.

My spare is totally dead. It looks brand new, so I assume its hadly been used. I have noticed that it appears that someone has tried to get at a battery in the past. Reading the manual it seems that the key is charged whilst in the ignition.

Does anyone know how many miles etc or how long it takes to charge a key up that is dead?

Thanks

Thanks for that, this explains it all.

If you don't mind, do you know where the tv tuner is? Here is a picture that I found on another forum, it shows that the module is located by the arrow. I've already removed the wheel, dome and protective casing (for me that is a minor miracle!), but before I proceed does this piece of 'housing' need to be removed to gain access to the module. Appreciate your help.

I think the "TV module" is a mod. I don't think they come with TV module as an option. So this is probably someone's custom install and location of choice for the TV.

Not for Europeans. They get cool stuff like that.

IIRC, that is a large panel that releases and pulls up and out. The TV module, and PDC amongst others, are clipped on. They are arrange when the panel is out so you do have to pull it out to access things.

PNG is right on as usual. You need to remove a few screws on both sides of the electronics tray that holds the radio module and TV module (if equipped, it is a Euro option as PNG said) and other things. The tray continues up on the right side of the battery too, and there is a screw near that rear wall that has to come out. Use a MAGNETIC screwdriver, trust me. ;)

That's my X5 in the pic. I fitted the OEM TV module as part of an aftermarket kit.

Here is a pic with the tray pulled out:
