Engine/coolan temperature light
Hi,
I finally got my 03 X5 (pictures coming soon) and I already have a questions. I found some info in the manual but not sure if this is for my year so can someone confirm this - According to the manual when I start the engine the RED coolant temp light suppose to light up for a second to indicate that the system functions properly. Mine is not but the needle works fine - goes and stays in the middle after few minutes of driving... Please let me know. Thanks. |
Do not trust the temperature gauge.
I am pretty certain it only deviates from the condition you report in dire circumstances (read: already too late). Access the on board computer and see what the actual coolant temp is for yourself. |

I don't have a temp light, so I can't help you there...but I don't think it is worth potentially risking an engine overheating scenario on an untested hunch that the 'bulb is burned out." It could just be the bulb, but I personally wouldn't take the chance, given the temp gauges in these cars are basically dummy gauges. |
