Amp coding question
 

Would an amp with the same part number going from one 2001 X5 with DSP to another 2001 X5 with DSP need to be coded?

Reason being one I purchased shuts down after ~ 30-60 seconds. BMW shop says no (not in this instance) but I thought I would ask the experts here.

I've seen this on my DSP, it sometimes "dissappears" after 30 or so seconds, if you look on the monitor the DSP option is also greyed out.
It may be worth checking all the connections as I suspect that if the i-bus doesn't get a response from the DSP it assumes it is not there and after a while it stuts down.
When this happens I can correct it by shutting the car off and starting it again and its usually OK after that - I have also re-seated all the connections to the DSP but sometimes it still happens :dunno:

Not quite the same because my head unit behaves as though everything is OK...The amp just shuts off as if it were in overload.

Here is hoping you resolve your issue as well.

Was it a new or used item, it could well be an overload problem

Follow-up. The amp worked just fine after being re-coded to match my X5. Even thought it was the same year, same system and same model and serial number it still needed to be coded.

How much to get it re coded ?
