Theres a lot to be said for "old school" mechanics.
One of the biggest issues with computer based diagnostics is that it is too easy to rely on whats presented, rather than work the problem out from first principles.
Whilst a computer is a good aide (i.e. diagnostic codes etc) you still need some mechanical savvy to determine if the reported fault code is the actual fault or a sympton of the fault - thats where experience wins every time!

At the end of the day, the basic principles of engine design hasn't changed - everything around it has become computer based!

So, let your dad have a go, what is there to lose?
If he can't fix it then get the dealer to "have a go"!

:iagree: You're lucky to have a Dad who is willing and able to help. Instead of arguing with him, lend him a hand.

That's the problem. Too much abuse isn't a good thing. Makes you resent your parents. Years later, it comes to bite them in the ass. They were too busy abusing before and pushing me away, now their bugging me asking you to come visit cuz its been for ever since you were over last.

Bottom line is, no matter what kind, abuse isn't a good thing. :)

I hope you know it's just a figure of speech. I think he's already shown that he can fix lots of things. If he can't fix it, then someone else can. It's just a car and not an organ. There are a lot of other things out there to worry about...
