Do you use the spare when you rotate X5 tires?
I'm about to hit 30K and think maybe it would be nice to have the spare "pristine".
What rule does everyone else follow? Thanks ED in Metuchen, NJ |
BMW recommends not rotating your tires.

is your wheels/tires set staggered? if it is, you can't rotate tires.
|
Never used the spare in conjunction with rotating the tires. In fact, when I bought my X, I had to buy a new tire, since the spare was bald (and flat). Luckily, I found a new wheel and tire on fleabay for $150 shipped.

My spare is a 17 inch wheel, while I have 18s on the ground.

my spare is also a 17 and I have normally 18s, i had the occasion to use my spare a month or so ago and luckily it was drivable and only had to go a few miles to the tire shop to get my regular tire replaced..
However, when they pulled off the spare they had found nails in it (I had never used the spare, since I just bought the car CPO in december) i was lucky, but everyone should check their spares, you never know when you might need it |

 Funny you should say that. I haven't checked mine in 3 years.
Pretty pathetic on my part. Thanks for the reminder. Now i have one more thing to put on the list that never ends .. Quote:

don't use the spare 'cause i don't rotate the tires
even though i have the same tires and wheels on all four corners i have never rotated them. that's an old concept. not necessary with todays cars.
