Should I Replace Waterpump?

I'm in the shop right now for alternator problems(?). It's a 2000 4.4 with 100,000 miles, had it since 42,000. Reading many of the postings on this site I'm wondering:
- Should I go ahead and replace the waterpump (and hoses) now, before it goes?
- What is a Final Stage Resistor?

1. Can't comment, I don't have the experience...
2. Info here http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/m...placement.html

Please post up your decision on subject 1...

Replacing waterpump, hoses and belts at around 100K makes sense if they are still original.

Final stage resister controls the fan speed of the cabin heating/cooling system.

Replace the waterpump. I had to help a buddy out last week on his 2001 325i with 77k, because his waterpump failed and the plastic fan blades broke off and tore up his radiator.

Just my .02 pesos.

:iagree: You are definitely in the "got-you-money's-worth & am on borrowed time" category - most BMW water pumps fail between 60,000-80,000 miles - the plastic vanes break with collateral damage to hoses, or radiator, or warped heads, or worse - good time to also replace belts & thermostat
