LeMansX5 09-09-2008 05:02 PM

Michelle, Remember to reset your trip meter at 98333 to zeros...and watch for the trip meter to show 432 and the odo will show 98765 at that time followed by the trip meter's 432.1 and pull over and take a cool countdown pic....then post here and also send to Roundel for publishing. They love those pics.

Michelle had the epic fail. :saad:

A few weeks ago, when the odometer hit 0987333, I reset the tripometer. When I parked the car a week later, I was 10 miles away from the picture. I Mapquested a shopping center along my commute and it said it was 9.5 miles away. Perfect, right?!

It turns out that Mapquest was wrong, and the shopping center is 11 miles away. So, as I'm driving and realize that I'm going to hit 098765 432.1 during my drive, I quickly get out my camera and try to snap the picture while driving on the windy one-lane road.

Normally, it wouldn't have turned out too bad. Except for the fact that it was pitch dark outside and I keep my dash at the lowest dimmer setting! UGH! Why didn't I remember to brighten the dash? I can barely see the odometer reading in the picture.

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...4/IMG_3379.jpg

I had some photoshoppers try to fix it:

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...Odometer01.jpg

http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...Odometer03.jpg

So much for sending the picture into Roundel. :saad:

I'll be hitting 100,000 by the weekend. Hopefully I won't fail again.

noncom23 10-14-2008 09:04 PM

Nice pix, Franc!

bcb1 10-15-2008 07:44 AM

Michelle,

My '05 X5 (just bought it) has 50,100. So I've a ways to go. BUT....

My '00 Yukon that I bought new in 2000 has 161,000 miles. Here's what I've done to it since new:

Water pump at 125,000 miles - $400
Fuel pump at 140,000 miles - $500
GM Goodwrench trans at 145,000 miles (ouch) - $2200 (emp discount)
Tires at 60,000 and 120,000 miles
Still has original brakes at 161,000 miles (unbelieveable)
BG Fuel injection service every 18 months, $100 per service

That's it. 161,000 miles. Rattle, squeak free. Doesn't burn oil, doesn't drip oil. Looks and runs damn near as good as the day I drove it off the lot.

I'm hoping I'm as lucky with my X5 (but I'm not counting on it)....sigh.

My 15 year old daughter will be driving my Yukon, so at least it'll still be in the family :)

nikpottala 10-15-2008 09:38 AM

Nothing but bliss after 121,800 miles for me. I just put new tires and wheels on and prepared my baby for another couple years of luv.

bcb1 10-16-2008 11:04 AM

Cool. Any major service since you bought it; or just normal oil changes and stuff like that?

nikpottala 10-16-2008 11:23 AM

As luck would have it, I went to get on the freeway last night and hit the accelerator only to have a huge hesitation. It almost felt like the car stalled. SES light came on. I had the codes read at Autozone and it pointed to mass air flow sensor. Nothing in stock and didn't want to shell out $300 so I took a bit of alcohol and cleaned the existing one and perfecto... no SES light.

121800 miles today, it was a CPO I purchased with 50,000.

I had the radiator res. replaced at 80,000. Two window actuators and brakes/rotors @ 95. Valve cover gaskets at 115K.

Other than that... just change the oil.

Cross my fingers and hope no lights come on tonight on my way home.

peacemf 10-16-2008 11:30 AM

After the epic fail in post #36, I will hopefully get the next one right.

I'm closing in on the 123,456 789.0 photo.

Just to double check, I'll be reseting my tripometer at 122,667.... right???

koban 01-19-2010 08:43 PM

i have 130k no major repairs to date...............

Anyway, less the epic failure (which I think is quite legible and could even fly in Roundel....well done!) thanks for posting the images and you're on your way to 123456 789!

Sorry, I'm new here (kinda)!

Congrats anyway on your rapid approach to 123456.

Also, you're math from post #52 (copied below) seems right to me. Good luck!

It's a rough feeling Andrew. That damn drive from Cornell university. Just wait till u start driving to and from college!

But on the other hand, I get comments that my X5 looks new. Someone actually asked me if it was a 2010 model!
