3.0, Crankcase Vent Valve R+R?

Hi everyone, first X5 tread;

I was hoping to see if anyone has a good approach (secret tricks) with R/R a Crankcase Vent Valve on a 2001, 3.0i?
I was told and (read); that, you do not have to take off the intake manifold to do this job.

But I can't "seem" to clear enough parts from around the intake manifold, and get to the mounting points in order to remove it? (so I think).
I know where the hose's connect, and can see some of the unit hiding under the Intake Manifold; and, I am following the Bentley Manual up to the end of it's instructions (vague), and then some; but, I can't seem to get a clear enough sight on how the vent value is held in.

I found the best Tech answers on Xworld.com, and was wondering if this topic found any consolidation? It's becoming a big enough topic (issue) to be put on the front page. (I would think?)

I really would like to get this sick part replaced before it spits out more brown stuff on the "just cleaned" valve cover or worse!

Has any one done this before? Thanks :dunno:

It can be and has been done. have you removed the throttle body? Once the TB is out of the way, it's a clear shot to the 2 torx screws. that hold it on.

Is the TB a remove and install, or would I need parts?

A remove and install

Is there a write-up on this somewhere ??? IF not, we need a write-up with pictures.

I believe someone recently did a nice write-up. Do a search for it.

Actually you can do it without taking the TB off, if you slide the junk up by the front differential vent hose out of the way. It is a huge PITA to get the new one in, and you will probably break the old one getting it out. But it can be done. Music and a beer are good to have for this task.

If it's OK with the Board, I can send pictures from start to finish and add comments with what the photo's entailed.

The threads I viewed on this job were very similar (E39's), but not from a E53. They also became off subject a little bit, and I might not have looked at every thread out there. It would be cool to have are own step by step write up on this if we don't already?

With what info that's already out there and good pic's; X5world could put together a nice right up on this growing service.

Here is a picture on some work that lead up to this service tread request. R+Rd (valve cover, ring gasket + cap); (spark plugs); (coils).

I guess "push comes to shove" when you start replacing parts.
