Extended Maintaince Warranty?

When I took delivery of my CPO 2005 X5 with 36K miles, the financial associate sprung this extended maintainence warranty on me for $2500 and told me that it would cover all maintainence after the 4yr/50k period. I was reluctant to purchase it...so he discounted it to $2,095 and told me that I would actually save a lot of money in the long run.

The dealer had just done the first inspection, with new brakes front and back. Now I'm looking back on this decision, and I think that it was a bad one. An oil change at my dealer costs $130, and I could do brakes myself. Did I make the wrong decision? It hasn't been 30 days yet...can I cancel?

The short answer is yes it sounds like it was a waste of $ in your case. If the brakes were just done and you can do them yourself anyway the remaining items that are covered by maintenance (oil change, service I/II, belts) would not come close to $2,000.

I don't know about the return policy but you could give them a call.

Good luck

So, I called the dealer today and spoke with the financial advisor who sold me the extended maintainance and I told him that I didn't want to keep it. He said that it was non-refundable, and the only way that I could cancel it was if the car was deemed a total loss while I owned it.

Do you think I could call corporate? Or am I out of luck?
