16:9 question
Looking to get video capabilities into my X5 and maintain the radio and factory look. No real need for the nav part at this time.
I did a search and there's a lot of stuff to read on the OEM 16:9. Read a lot of it but didn't really find what I needed about swapping from the business CD player garabage to this for just video and radio uses (no NAV): http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...tor_X5/big.jpg Is there a way to make use of this screen to keep the radio working but to get inputs to do an aftermarket video setup off a DVD player or is it best to just use the OEM player?? Audio outputs on this piece............ can it be converted into RCA's somewhere to be able to hook into external processing and then an aftermarket amp ?? What's been the experience with this and being able to setup surround sound? Anyways, any insight to all of this would be greatly appreciated................... |
very interesting..... so you can actually pick up this part, plug and play and get radio and video?

Either way, this is about a $4K job for parts alone. |
What if I could get my hands on one of these and just wanted to use it as a radio instead of the business cd garbage - simple?

will not work. You will need the radio tuner, which will cost you around $500, more or less and wiring harness. The screen is just monitor. The sound comes from the tuner, and the nav display comes from computer. Think of it this way, you buy a monitor without a computer, you will not get anything.

once again, it is just a monitor. IT WILL NOT WORK UNLESS YOU BUY THE OTHER COMPONENTS.
|
got ya, what is the part no for the radio tuner?
|
there are different P/N though. Tom carries it on their site. Check this out: http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...6585f62c695d6a
|
also, you will need the following for FULL setup:
- MK4 - Nav Harness - Antenna |
Please correct me if i am wrong,
But teoreticly you could connect RGB device directly to the monitor, and feead the sound from the RGB device to the AMP, and then to the speekers. The Monitor would be just a screen with no button functions, but is should work ? |
Please correct me if I'm wrong here on all this.
Ok, so the monitor is a dead flop without a source. To get the radio function going, you need this radio tuner puppy: http://www.europeanautosource.com/im...beckerbm53.jpg How about the video part. Can one go to an aftermarket source to get a video signal to this monitor or you need the BMW NAV drive ??? What am I missing ??? :dunno: I think there's a lot of details I don't have right now, especially on the wiring side of things. And $4K for the whole system is nutz......... wow............ you can kill this whole setup with the available aftermarket for way less.......... it's just the OEM integration bit that has me looking at this monitor and going........... hmmmmmmmm:drool: |
^^for video, you will need a video source module, and of course the source. It is available from eas as well. If you want cost effective setup, go with aftermarket that comes complete with nav, dvd and other stuffs for around $1000 or something. OEM is expensive. I spent $2200 for OEM on my E46, which i retrofitted myself, which is why when i looked for an X5, i made sure that i have it
