well... I finally got it done, I tried first BMW dealership but they were so disorganized (i.e. not knowing how to give me an estimate at first, screwing my appointment, not knowing how to tell what my glass was) sigh... I decided to go with a glass shop.

They told me exactly what my options were, and told me exactly as some of you did about the purple hue, which I didn't have (my X5 is a 3,0 bare bones).

So, I saved 400 bucks, the dealer was going to put the same thing for 800.00.

Excellent installation btw, I guess doing glass only makes them the experts.

On mine I notice some kind of film and discoloring, u can tell in the center of the windscreen there are some spots left open where the color/tint/uv block was not applied and there the color of glass is much whiter.
perhaps this spot was left open for rain sensor or installation of toll reading devices. it seems very intentional and the gaps have perfectly rounded edges.

however it seems to be inside the windscreen as there is no actual film on it when i felt over the area.

when u open the window u can also feel the difference in UV on your hand behind your windscreen and outside your windscreen.
