One thing, the 4.4 really doesn't use more gas than the 3.0..so if you are buying one the 4.4 is the way to go. Everyone thinks the milage of the 4.4's will be worse and therefore the price is now about the same as a 3.0. That really isn't the case so if you are in the market definately buy a 4.4. You get way more standard features, power, and about the same gas mileage for about the same money.

The OP has a 2003 4.4, which is pre-Valvetronic. It definitely gets worse mileage than the 3.0. Even though the 2004-onwards 4.4 Valvetronic is published with practically the same mileage as the 3.0, that is only true on a dyno. In the real world drivers tend to use the power available to them, and then the mileage drops significantly.

I do agree that the public has depreciated the 4.4 more than the 3.0. Best bet to buy is a loaded 3.0, as it will hold its resale value more, if SUV and resale value can be used in the same sentence.
