New here - Introduction

Hello folks,

I've been lurking here for some time so its about time I introduce myself as a proud owner of a 2005 4.4 X5 (CPO) with 34k kms.

I must admit that I'm a MUSTANG guy and this X is our first ever non-Ford vehicle. We've had it for about 2 weeks and so far we're having a blast. We got this vehicle to replace our 'winter ride' which was a 2002 V8 Eddie Bauer Explorer.

I'm impressed that the 100HP gain comes with better fuel mileage. Sort off.. since the X drinks premium gas, I just about break even.

The 'Winter ride'

'Basic' interior - no-Nav but with DSP

I love the 'Angel-eyes'

Now as a 'Mustang guy' - I am also a Certified Judge with the Mustang Club of America - my main 'hobby car' is my 1995 Mustang GT.

The car is 'fairly' modified to 400HP. Here's the 'blood and guts' engine view:

Compared to that the X's engine looks pretty 'sterile'

And while the X may not be able to keep up with the Mustang on the 'strait-and-dry' road, winter is another story.... so 'Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow!'

Thanks for looking!

Welcome aboard...The X will pretty much blow you away compared to the Explorer..especially in the snow..trust me...

As far as the mustangs go...have you done any Saleen or Roush mods?

On paper, compared to the Explorer the X is:
2 feet shorter
6 inches narrower (depending on which Ford source you look at)
4 inches lower (height)

yet 200 lbs heavier!!!??? WTF is this SAV made of!!!???

As for the Mustang, no third-party parts in it... every Mod was taken directly from the Ford Racing Parts catalogue. I made sure the Mustang remained a Mustang.

I think that you will soon be referring to yourself as a BMW guy, not a Mustang/Ford guy. :D

Hope the mods bugs bite you really hard :D :D

The X5 is built like a tank and has many safety/convenience features that the Explorer doesn't. Shut the front door on an X5 and then shut the front door of an Explorer and you will immediately tell the difference in materials/quality.

There is a reason the e53 X5 was one of the safest vehicles ever tested when it came out.

Last,
Congrats on your X and welcome to the Board!

Well done pics, too...

You will come to appreciate the tank-like feel, yet
with adroit handling; those extra lbs will save your
fanny in an unfortunate accident, but the sumbithc
handles far better than it "should".

You may think about shopping for a winter set of
skins/wheels, depending upon your driving needs
in the YYZ area of the GWN.

Oh no I hope not.... I really can't afford to mod 2 cars... well maybe a DICE iPod module and that's it! Honest.

Yes I found that out today... just had to crawl under the X. Parts that were stamped steel in the Explorer are solid steel/aluminum in the X... aerodynamic too!

I did just that... picked up a set of Michelin Pilot Alpins 235/65R17 on a set of ROH star rims for $600 (rims and tires) from a Kijiji ad. They were used 1 season on a 2002 X5 4.4... seemed like a deal too good to pass on.

Thanks for the welcome... now I'm spending as much time here as on the Mustang board. I like the international 'flavour' here. There's a lot to learn.
