More info needed?

Year/Engine/mileage of X5?
Did you open the hood to see where the leak is coming from?

first check your expantion tank, water pump, T-stat , let the engine run and check for the leak

I am fairly certain there are no cooling hoses etc on that side, the left side. It's odd that the AC gave out so I would wait for it to cool off and then see if you have coolant in the coolant tank, on the right hand side, then go from there.

thanks for the help so far, also the liquid is a bit oily? any reason why?

We found that the fan cut up the harness we havent found a leak on the hoses. does that mean the thermostat is bad?

is it safe to drive the car to the shop?

looks like it coming from the thermostat and water pump. But since you have 2001 X5 4.4, i would recommend replacing the following:

1. Thermostat
2. Water Pump
3. All Hoses
4. Valley Pan

and you should be good after replacing everything. Check my signature or the DIY section to do this.

i just noticed you are from norcal. I am from sunnyvale, where you from?

After further review of the area.
The waterpump does not show any leakeage. However the thermostat area is all sprayed with the coolant, like it came gushing out from this area. It seems that the thermostat is bad.
In addition the electrical piece above was cut by the fan baldes and I have to found out where does this connect to? I trace the cable and it goes to the left side of the radiator. (stainding in front of the x5). However it dissaper behind towards the front of the radiator.
Any one waht is the cost of the thermostat repalcement work in your area?
Is there a good DIY post at this time to replace the thermostat? I review BIMMER360 DIY and it seems a good reference but I'm not changing the water pump (it seems that the waterpump was replace recently it looks new) and just want to limit myself to change the thermostat.
Any suggestions or tips at this time since I will try to do it on Saturday. Any idea where does the electrical harness goes to?
Thank you for your help
