headlights clearout- 2002 x5 final questions
Ok I have read all the previous posts on this issue but still some questions remains:
When clearing out the HL, I assume you take all three parts off" the two lenses (lenses for high-beam and xenon) and the amber to get the clear look. So in fact, there is NO more lens in place for High-beam and xenon, or do i need to get a clear one? As for high beam I understand it will be a very different beam, which doesnt bother me too much as for xenon, removing the lens will affect the cut off? Is it still usable without the lens? or is there any other concerns? the lens must have some important use , otherwise it wouldnt be there right? I do not plan to use AE just get that clear look. |
the Highbeam lens are covered with that waffers to reduce brightness revove it will have no ILL to the lights.
Lowbeam lens that waffers have noting to do with the light out put it just there to cover the housing. and one last thing YOU CAN NOT open up those 02 and up head lights to do what you want to do. |
I thought it was 03 only and mine is a 4.4i dec/2002 model
So I guess I can proceed to remove those 3 items and I dont need to get any other parts to replace them. |
Some 02's can be opened, I don't remember the exact date. that waffle insert also serves for keeping the beam straight, but I believe you don't need it if you have xenons.

Hi beams will go to spot lights once you remove the waffle - both go straight out in front of you.
Waffle does not affect xenons at all. Orange side lens is a matter of preference. Personally I thought the headlights looked unfinished or like they were missing something without the lens, so I left mine in. Not to mention I got some of the lens cover sealant on the reflective part behind that lens and there is no way to get it off without messing up the chrome reflective coating. |
